Hello!
I have gotten my self an 86 g11 turbo! And it needs a bit of TLC.
The car was originally sold new in Stockholm, Sweden. But ended up in Luleå and then Kiruna for the past 10-15 years. The guy I bought it from had a plan to fix it up really nice. New paint and such. But never got round to it.
He bought it form another guy about 5 years ago. That owner had had the car for over 10 years and in that time blown the engine and turbo up(!) but got it renovated by a company in Luleå that changed about everything exept the block and head. After this, the engine has done about 3500km.
But(t)! There are things to fix on it. Mainly a janky carburetor. The engine runs smooth and silky on half throttle and light load. But when the mighty turbonshould propell you to another dimension, the engine falls flat and coughs. If I back out and on int a gain it repeats. Only thing that has helped is to blipp the throttle a few times to get the booster pump to squirt in some extra fuel, and off it goes.
I have had a look at the boost actuator for the secondary throttle plate, and it works. I have qlso removed it’s return spring and routed the hose directly to the intake plenum. But to no luck.
The carburator also leaks a bit of fuel, so I think I need to rebuild it.
Also, the “TURBO” light in the centre of the instrument cluster will not illuminate. Were does it get it’s signal from?
Do these engines have any over boost protection, like the famous APC-system on SAABs from that era?
Other than that it’s in really good condition for it’s years.
