2002 Daihatsu Yrv Turbo R throttle body to manifold seal

Hi folks,

Hoping someone can lend an assist here,

I’m currently in a pickle of my own making after I naively thought I’d work on my own car…

Long story short, I had the throttle body off and in putting it back on I sheared the seal in two when it fell out of place and pinched.

At this point (after several other failures) I decided to cut my losses and take it to a professional to repair my stuff ups plus complete the original work it was apart for.

He put in a standard round o-ring into the groove and supposedly job done however it has been leaking boost since. The seal that came out and got damaged is not a typical round o-ring. It is an unusual shape (to me at least) with two beveled faces on its outer and groove in the inner. Pic below.

Having trouble locating one of these. Any one have any clues?

Cheers all

Appreciate there are a few* differences between the K3-VE & K3-VET but the part number for the sealing gasket/o-ring for a K3-VE engine is 9004301272

From my hazy memory of throttle body stuff on my K3-VE2, it is a very supple large diameter (3-5mm?) o-ring which is a tight fit between lower throttle body and inlet manifold.

As a temporary measure, could you slather the existing o-ring in some silicone or red rubber grease to try and effect a better seal?

I believe the mechanic tried that, he’s had the car back to look at the leak and said he had it apart and slathered it with some grease (mostly to hold it in place for install I think so it wouldn’t fall out) which made it better but it still wouldn’t hit its normal full boost and on rare occasion would just touch 12psi but then bleed back down. So it’s not a huge leak but it typically makes and holds 12 pounds as soon as you give it any right foot.

Seems only to leak under high pressure as otherwise runs/idles fine.

Thanks for the link, I’ll do some more digging

Cheers
