long time lurker, first time poster. Hello!
Currently rebuilding a HD-E to replace the HE-E in my g203 that’s leaking from every which way. The car itself is in pretty rough shape, and I’m bound to spend more than the sum of its parts, but I just can’t resist. I’ve fallen for these little cars and I can’t wait to get her cleaned up and running healthy.

Welcome. sounds like a usual car build to me lol We always seem to spend more than most would see it’s worth. I am interested to hear how you find the hde over the he e. I had g203 with the 1.5L in it years ago and it went very well. It was much better than some 1.3L hce’s I have been in.
I would definitely be hanging onto your old He e though and rebuilding it. It’s always good to have a spare if you can.

Haha yeah, its always “just a few more $$ and she’ll be right”. To be honest, the 1.5 was a blast. I wouldn’t be doing a swap if it weren’t for the rear main. Stumbled across a 1.6 and thought why not! Will definitely be good to have the HE on standby in the future though.
Welcome, and it is great to see someone putting effort into saving a G203. Rebuilding the HD E should make a big difference, especially if the previous engine had multiple leaks. These cars have a lot of character, and restoring one can be very rewarding. Looking forward to seeing your progress and updates.
