In my opinion just their excuse for sticking with EF-EL. All the Curoes and Sirions EJ-DEs I’ve pulled down wore out rings or blew headgaskets. How many people out there have them running with aftermarket ECUs and push past the std redline? 7000rpm on mine all day and not a hickup, and I mean it will sustain 7000rpm under load. And a mate’s ran 7500rpm with std bottom end and big big power with only the occasional blown head gasket. A std one will run out of puff as the revs rise. I’ve pulled down a lot of these and have never seen a damaged crank. I am going to suggest it’s all just rumor mongering. When I see a damaged one I’ll believe it.
