Hi all) I have a Daihatsu cuore Wonderful car and impressed me a lot with its very low weight and non-dependent rear suspension. I want to make it so I can occasionally go for a drive on track days. I’m going to tweak the chassis and brake system. Plans are to swap the ej-de. Since the car is in poor condition repair will be immediately with modernization. To date, replaced shock absorbers and springs and the car is lowered decently, but want to still lower. Also installed seats from Volkswagen Golf 6.

Bought Daihatsu Kuore l700 as parts for the transition to ej-de and transmission and brakes. Looks like this now)

Hi mate, there’s a fair bit to do going to a EJ box. Both EJ and EJ box will fit okay, though you will have issues with your clutch cable.

When swapping to the cuore’s front calipers just remove the L500’s lines from the hardline-flex line join and attach the cuore lines they’re a direct fit, they won’t stay captive but that shouldn’t be too much of and issue.

Make sure you use the lower control arms from the L7, that’ll allow you to bolt the 4x100 hubs if you wish. You will need to find new wheels and roll the guards. I suggest going the way of M100 or non turbo YRV calipers as they are a greater upgrade than standard L7. M1 has 234mm vented discs over solid 211mm ones. Going to the L7 arms will increase your front track 15mm the largest possible wheel you are able to fit without flares or scrubbing is a 14x5.5 +45 (standard size for 1st gen NA series MX5). with a 165 wide tire, anything larger and you’ll need to alter the guards. Rear the L7 drum is a direct fit and you don’t have to do anything to convert to 4x100 though the drums are small.

Hi, thanks for the comment. I bought the l700 fully assembled and in a bad rusty condition but it doesn’t matter as I will transfer everything to my bodywork and so will use 4x100 brakes, hubs and wheels from it too. In the future when I have the money I will put lightweight r15 rims and think about bigger brakes. If I put the engine, box, axles and hubs and lower arms from the l700 on the l500, what difficulties might I encounter?

Axles themselves won’t fit without modification, ie cutting and sleeving them. You’ll need to also altr te shift link

Copen front rotors and callipers are the simplest bolt on, big brakes. For now use the rear brake slave cyl from the L700 and toss the small L500 ones. There was a Charade F2 with rear disc brakes with integrated hub and including the calliper mount. Very rare but one of the easiest. Also fairly easy is using Applause rear discs. Machine off the drum brake section of an L700 drum to leave the hub only. Disc slips over. Make you own calliper bracket from 6mm alu/3mmsteel (I think it gets spaced one way [prob outward] with 10-12mm spacer). Now the callipers on these are the same as early MX5/Miata so easy to come up with. Hand brake requires some fab work (see my thread “Not Quite Track”). Master cyl remains do not change the size as it will have plenty of capacity and the bore gives an excellent power and modulation.
