I’ve been struggling to find a replacement antenna for the car, I have found some for sale in japan but I don’t think it would be worth paying so much for shipping when the JDM ones are tuned for their old radio broadcast band and probably wouldn’t recieve better than the knitting needle currently installed. Is there a easy to buy equivalent from toyota?
Unless I am mistaken, the aerial is ‘dumb’ - suggested by the fact that your knitting needle (and a bent wire coat hanger I used many years ago for the same purpose) works.
The JDM bands are totally irrelevant - thats for the head unit to use. The aerial ‘picks up’ EVERYTHING, the head unit interprets a select part of the bandwidth and turns the signal into usable noise.
So you can use any old aerial you want, provided it can attach to the aerial input on the head unit in the car you will get audio output. There are loads of universal aerials for sale on ebay for example?
