Dropping the subframe

Hi all could I please get some advice from seasoned droppers as im having to drop my subframe to do some repairs to the clutch and various engine seals.

It all looks a bit daunting removing the body from the whole front end of the car.

I have some heavy duty castors and will make some sort of wooden dolly to go under the subframe so that i can just wheel it around, if i even manage to seperate the thing.

How many jacks would I need, I currently have 2 stands and 2 scissor jacks, will this be enough or will I need a trolley jack also.

And what would the order of the jacking be, car first then the subframe, then jack it down onto the frame? Or jack the frame up to meet the body?

This is very much a driveway job so everything is limited. Advice much appreciated!

what car?

Its a move l601, apologies for not mentioning,
I thought most daihatsus have the same type of chassis to subframe setup

the L series do but there are charades and applause even 4wd feroza and rocky that don’t and then there is the hi jets etc. lol

For your move to do the clutch and other thing’s where you have to split the engine, I prefer to remove the engine and not drop the subframe… Jack it up on 2 jack stands, take off the front bar, radiator and rad support out, bonnet off if needed. Undo everything take out the engine. With a 2nd person minimum if no engine crane. For the engine loom you can unplug it from the ecu snd pull it through firewall and leave all the plugs in engine plugged in.

Can the gearbox be removed from the engine while it is still on the subframe. Man power is limited.

And in the worst case scenario, which gearboxes are compatible with an ed20 engine.

It can but it is very difficult. Some people muscle them out themselves. I don’t recommend as I suffered a life long back injury lifting and putting down and ed10/20 engine. Hence why I said 2 people minimum.
L200, L500 and L600 fit without modification.

Definitely don’t recommend moving the engine without some form of mechanical assistance. I’ve done my back quite the pain over the few ones I have moved as well. Very much seconded @evilhighway

@moveza Easiest way for some help is to use a chain block, very common finding used old ones, I’ve personally done engine out work 3 times with a chain block high up one on a LPG Barra which are fairly heavy engines. ED engine and gearbox should be around 120kg.

Hmm, engine alone from the top or gearbox alone with a hoist and two people to do a clutch, I would steer away from. Did these once each before I knew better. Engine and box together is easier.
