I purchased a Daihatsu Mira L251 not running (big mistake) I now have the car running but the clutch was slipping. Installed a new clutch now I have no gears (clutch is not disengaging). Not sure if I have a faulty clutch. I found a diagram that shows a spacer behind the flywheel, I don’t have such a thing currently, does it exist? (Part 18)
The lever for the clutch goes almost to the stop before it has any resistance. I’m not sure if the flywheel is too far away due to the missing spacer or I have a badly machined flywheel or the third option a faulty/incorrect pressure plate. Appreciate anyone taking the time, thank you.
have you tried adjusting the clutch cable? that would probably fix it. if it is the cable don’t set it too tight, otherwise the clutch will wear very quickly.
yes the do exist and I have had to use one when putting an L251 gearbox on an ed10 engine with an ed10 flywheel. Without it the starter would not engage. You should have no issue with the stock flywheel though. Try what the guys above have suggested.
did you by accident reverse installed the clutch plate? Because this wont work
Yes, If I adjust it down there is no pedal like the release bearing never meets the pressure plate.
Appreciate that, I’m going to go meet a gentleman that is parting out an EJ-DE this afternoon and hopefully it’s there behind the flywheel. The car does start but I noticed some wear on the teeth like maybe the starter is engaging shallow. I hope that is the issue, I’m definitely missing one spacer on the front of the engine aswell because the fan belt is wearing into the timing cover.
I am missing the flywheel spacer. Going to be hard to track down as Daihatsu has left the market (South Africa). Thanks for the advice, all the best.
they are only about 2 mm max in thickness. You could make a template from the back of the crank and the flywheel and get a piece laser cut or make one yourself with basic home tools
