Green machine L251 build

Bought another L251 charade , old one was mrgray and was silver new one a very rough little 330,000km old nugget. Someone loved it though full tint and a custom cat back system made me pick it up for a whopping $1000 . Needed some love full brakes front and rear , lower control arms , wheels bearings and a nice service she was back on the road as a daily driver

I’ve since done some basic stuff , swap the stereo and speakers , some new tyres and I believed this car was truly destined to be the most basic of daily drivers , that was until @b_hoves was getting rid of his L251 which was also mine prior to his ownership . With some mods and little goodies left on the bones of that shell I decided id make another fun car daily driver and spend a little coin on it

With some low emissions driving (push it down the hill) got the car on the trailer and got it home , nearly lost it off the trailer however after going over a pot hole and losing a rear spring that luckily just sat in a hole in the trailer where the ramps come out no wonder no one was tailgating me. Got started on stripping some of the bits I was gonna keep , rad and AC condenser , shifter setup , front bar , copen brakes and wheels , metal EJ rocker cover etc , will fully strip the car down later on as a parts car and keep the drivetrain

First things first clean up the set of copen wheels , all 4 wheels had rash and marks , fresh prime up and repair and some FPV dark argent basecoat and clear to seal the deal , came up pretty neat better than before and better than steelies

Then I decided id paint the car in the shed , I’m a spray painter by trade no issue there but my God did I make a mess , my floor is green because I was too lazy to plastic it down lol here’s some pics of me slowly every other day painting a panel at a time to keep my compressor from spitting water out the gun

I cheated in the end and did the outer doors , qtrs and can’t rails and roof at work in the booth , my compressor would have spat so much water on the roof and I just wanted it done,

Here’s how she sits currently

Cars been good since painting it , no major hiccups , it was my birthday coming up and I wanted to treat myself / the car and bought some L700 V1 BC racing coilovers. I had these in my old silver L251 and they made the car feel fantastic even without swaybars etc and really make the car look good lowered . I also picked up this nugget m300 sirion 1.3 that I’ll be stealing it’s engine and auto box for the green daihatsu , might stay auto might find rest of bits from a GTVI manual see how I travel. Will throw up some pictures of coilover fitting today

all lowered now looks fantastic and handles so much better than 330,000km old front shocks and cut rear springs with excel shocks haha

So a lot happen in a short amount of time , @FrAsErTaG reached out to me regarding his L251 with a lot of cool and funny mods ( go check It out) we got to talking and a deal was made. The madman drove up from ACT to gympie qld , for those who don’t know that’s about 15/16 hours, absolutely solid effort. The car is an aus L251 with a jap EF-DET setup , full 2 inch exhaust , factory momo steering wheel , bucket seats all wrapped in a raptorlined shell. The plan next will be to take all the goodies from this car and pop them Into the Green machine and take my standard 1L EJ and standard parts to pop into his shell and move it on. Not keeping both . Super appreciative of @FrAsErTaG for driving it up and I’ll take good care of it guts. Due to this change in direction I’ve sold the m300 to another daihatsu enthusiast that has a hijet , first step is swapping interior should get onto it during the week , spent the whole weekend just getting behind the wheel of this thing around town loving it , makes all the right noises.

Rest of the engine swap will happen during my time off work over Christmas

Didn’t get heaps done today but little by little , swapped out the bucket seats in the raptor lined car for my stock seats and stock steering wheel, moved the momo steering wheel over to mine but will keep seats out while I give the carpet and seats a nice wet dry vac and steam clean before installing

On a side note I realized I never took photos earlier in the build but I replaced the plastic rocker cover on the EJ with a metal one and replaced all the spark plug seals , tapped out some m6 holes and made the splash plate a removable serviceable item , made up a little intake pipe as well to suit , doesn’t really matter though as I’ll be using the EF-DET soon enough but it was great to fix some poorly designed factory items

Also an update I forgot about , slow on the upkeep haha now running copen front brakes with braided brake lines front and rear now , brakes feel nice and on point now.

Little more work done , gave green machines carpet and the bucket seats from the raptorlined car a hoover wet vac. If your on the fence of one of these machines for car cleaning they are fantastic. You don’t know your stuffs dirty till you use it , couple holes in my carpet not gonna worry about it as I’ve got some factory mira floormats en route from japan to cover it up anyway

As you can see blacker than under the bed coming out of the carpet :sob:, seats weren’t that bad but nice and clean now and had a visit from a little helper
