Hi, I am Tauqeer, currently living in Lahore and student of automotive engineering. Recently my father had bought Toyota duet 2002 model with 1000cc engine. The car is really a gem, underrated. Right now, its engine has seen better days. Currently I am thinking to replace it with EF-DEM or DET from Daihatsu terios kid or terios lucia and another option I had to replace the engine with Daihatsu tanto EF-VE non turbo. What engine should I choose among both as this is first time I am swaping an engine for car
its the same as a dahatsu sirion mk1
EJ‑DE/EJ‑VE 989 cc petrol engine should fit the same as in a daihatsu cuore l7

Welcome to the forums.
not sure about toyota deuts. I can only comment that the efdet is a good engine. No idea about the ef-dem or the efve, we never got them in Australia. Actually we only got the ejde anything else has really just been imported.
Here in Europe, we have the Toyota Aygo which has the same basic engine as Daihatsus have. I’ve read here that the engine to transmission’s bellhousing between the two are different, making engine swaps impossible, without sandwiching an adapter plate in between or cutting and splicing driveshafts, when using Toyota’s gearboxes
I guess Australian spec named Daihatsu Sirion/Storia same thing as Toyota Duet with different badge
Is it possible to shift the intercooler location in EF-DET engine as i wanted to put it along side the radiator otherwise need to make hole for scoope in the bonnet
I guess aygo has 1KR-FE engine obviously 1kr couldn’t be paired with duet/storia transmission without adapter plate. may be duet/storia 1300cc k3-ve has same transmission as 1kr
It’s the same engine, but spare parts are currently very hard to find in Pakistan. They may be available, but mostly in poor condition. That’s why I’m considering replacing it with a 660cc turbo engine
