L200 wiring

Hoping this fits this category well.
I’m looking for some insight into wiring. To give some insight on my situation, my Avanzato currently has an ed-20 fitted, I have the original EF-jl engine but it was removed by the original owner due to concerns of damage to the head and was pushing 95hp before it came out. He was very good in maintaining the original gauge cluster, steering column stalks and loom. He has literally swapped the entire engine, engine loom, body loom and all mounting hardware (e.g. gauges) to avoid any splicing. I can appreciate this as it was meant as a temporary fix. Currently I’m thinking I might ej-ve swap it (seems common in the UK and why pick the ej-de over the ej-ve) and will later possibly turbo it. It will be my first swap and seems like a good one to start with.

Back to my main question, I would like to put the original Avanzato gauge cluster and column stalks back in for this swap along with the original body loom so power windows and such all work as they should. Is the Avanzato body loom any different to a normal l200 loom?

I’m only wondering due to the dash being different and in my research I’ve seen people create wiring maps for a gauge cluster swap (from stock to Avanzato) so made me wonder if the looms are different. Additionally due the current l500 column stalks being installed, it’s not mounted properly, and instead of making a mount is it possible to put the original column stalks back in and just rewire the current loom connected to the ed-20.

I’m very good mechanically but still learning electronics! Don’t feel the need to answer all of it either, I appreciate it’s a lot!
Thank you for your time

P.s. if I figure this out and get it done, I’d like to make a guide on how I did it to help future owners here!

I cant help much with this as we did not get the ejve or the ef-jl here in Australia but there are some floating about. We did get the ejde however.
I presume that the ejve is basically the same as the ejde with the exception of the vvt part. That being the case and depending on the year of it you may have to have the ecu, loom, key, key reader and immobiliser with it also for that engine.
If you dont then you should be able to get it running only using the ecu and I beleive that the only wiring you need to do will be some pos and neg from the little plug that is along side the main engine ecu plug depending on car they can be green or blue or ?
As for your guages they should work with the original loom with the exception of the tacho, I believe you need to get a tacho adapter thing or one can be made from a relay. (there is youtubes about it). This is due to the tacho from the ef running from 12v from the coil (same with the ed20) and the ej will go from the ecu and be 5v I beleive.

Im not sure if I have everything 100% correct here so you will probably make some of your own discoveries on the way. If anyone else is better equiped with the knowledge then please correct me of sing out.

Oh perfect, that’s extremely helpful thank you.

Sounds like, for now I can at least put the original gauge cluster back in to run with the ed-20 because it’s a lot better looking and will make the interior cleaner. I’ll look more into engine later as I still haven’t even made up my mind on what engine to use, all seem hard to find in the UK except K3s but sounds like more work than I’m ready for being my first swap. Additionally, it seems picking the right engine for me is impossible too!

Thank you for help again though, helpful it’ll work for me.

the plugs maybe different beteween what you have currently I was presuming you were changing back to the original wiring for the guages etc.

Tbh, I might. It would save a lot of headache I think. Why rewire the gauge clusters, the fan controls, the power windows and column stalks when I could just put the original loom in and rework it by the ECU. I’m assuming it’s going to hopefully be straightforward! I need to lay out the old loom first though.

The ecu is really mainly for the engine, the only thing you should need from the ecu is the tacho signal, everything else should be direct from engine for the guages in the instrument cluster. The body loom is pretty a seperate thing.
If you removed the ecu and turned to car to on you will see that most things like lights windows, heater, fans and your windows etc will still work.

Ahhh okay interesting, thank you again.

The first thing I’ll probably end up doing is swapping the whole looms over and hoping the original loom will be somewhat clear on what goes wear. I might do this by taking the current loom out and mark all the connectors and then compare it to the old one till it makes sense.

Then I’ll worry about the engine. Might try and get the ef-jl going till it pops.
