I’ve recently purchased a move and every day I’ve been replacing the olds worn out parts. My next venture is to remove the disgusting amount of sludge within the engine itself. I’ve tried Nulon “Extreme Engine Flush” to no avail. It literally did nothing. Do you guys have any other engine flush suggestions or will I probably have to take it apart and do it by hand?
I avoided watching the following video, assuming it would be rediculous. But when I did, the engine they were flushing indeed didn’t blow up, as I expected it to do.
The flushed it a couple times, before removing both oil pan and rocker cover, only to find out why the first flush filled the pan with much thicker fluid than had gone in.
Unfortunately, they didn’t show a close-up on the cam lobes and didn’t remove a rod bearing, to see if any excessive wear took place.
If you’ve got an oil burner and have a set of new bearings and camshaft availabe, what would it hurt to perform a similar flush for freeing up any gummed-up piston rings? Feeding some of this fluid into the intake might also free rings, if done systematically:
Here’s a before and after on the camshaft. The view obviously isn’t as accurate as when seen personally up close:
If it didn’t adversely affect the lobes, perhaps the best way to flush an engine would be to do it, without putting a load on it and running it at low enough r.p.m.s to keep the oil pressure light out
