Hi all, first time posting. Thought I’d share so far.
Red, faded red L7, going to rough up the paint and clear coat it.
So far:
Gen 1 new Mini wheels, fit perfectly, 165/50/15
Tried many exhaust options, most involving motorcycle silencers, went with the most simple, i.e. no silencer.
Wooden Nardi-esque steering wheel.
Cold air intake.
Have 3cm lowering springs still to fit. Plus Hyundai i110 rear shocks, front shocks standard, but new, like hen’s teeth they are.
Also got some steel Mini wheels and NS2 tires, wondering if they might put too much stress on the wheel fixing components though, these L7s are not designed as racing cars.
Your L7 looks fantastic. I like the idea of roughing the paint and clear coating. The steel wheels with ns2’s should be fine. Dai’s May not be originally designed for racing but the surely can be raced

Welcome.
Go easy on the scuffing up the paint. I’d just use a fine scotch brite pad and scuff everywhere. Green is common and might work as fairly fine at 400-600grit (depends on manufacturer, 3m is 600). I’d go finer and between 800-1200. Do a test patch first. You may know all that already or have your own ideas, but as an ex spray painter I thought I’d throw it out there.
Another thing to “throw out there” is to only do the rear springs for the moment and test drive before fitting the front. I band on about his a lot. Not sure what rates you have? To kill the understeer you want 400lb plus in the rear. Front should remain around std and 125lb. 150lb max for the front on a road car. Soft front means letting the front tires remain in contact with the ground under all dynamic weight transition, while the back is stiff and weight transfers diagonally from the back to the front. You can even run shorter the rear shocks so that the inside rear wheel lifts send weight to the front. It is possible to cut half a coil out of the front springs and remove the lower seat rubbers. To get the angle back do a long chamfer about 40-50mm long up the middle of the coil wires so as to expose the outer face. Blend the sharp edges into a small radius. That will help them seat. Again you might already now all of that.
Looking forward to seeing and hearing of the results.
