Hi Team , going to look at a cheap 2001 SIrion M100 , Owner says it won’t go into Drive.
Is there a check i can do to rule out something simple.
Cheers Jez

I moved to post to questions and answer’s . The only checks I can think of is to see if the shift mecanism is stuck or the actual selector near the gearbox is stuck etc.
Cool so check linkages cables,
do they have some sort of safety switch to stop it going into drive ?
They don’t, the little clip that holds the control cable for the shift linkage is quite easily lost. Which will then not let if shift at all.
I was just thinking of some general things to check. Not much experience with it really.
Will it not go into only drive or won’t it go into any other gear setting, including park? If it’ll at least go into reverse, showing no signs of slipping when driving, you could then rule out any torque converter or pump problems, isolating any malfunction to the valve body. Of course, a broken clutch band could be a remote possibility. But, highly unlikely.
Most automatic transmission problems originate through neglected maintenance of which a fluid flush and filter screen-cleansing should solve these problems.
In any case, even if a band is severed, it’s not complicated to repair
