Hey everyone,
I thought I’d finally introduce my little project and ask for some suspension advice.
A few months ago I picked up this 1995 Daihatsu Mira Avanzato TR-XX (L502S). It was mostly standard when I bought it, and I’ve slowly been adding a few tasteful touches.
So far I’ve done:
Full service and general maintenance
New stereo and speakers
Window tint
RSR lowering springs (front and rear)
Designed some custom TR-XX Avanzato R decals
Currently looking for a set of wheels
Originally I was trying to source a set of 14-inch wheels, but finding anything I like in 4x110 PCD has been a real pain. I’ve now started looking at 15-inch wheels instead. Nik from NMF Garage mentioned that with a set of coilovers, fitting 15s should be pretty straightforward, so that’s got me thinking.
The car isn’t my daily. It’s just a fun little weekend runabout that I’d like to enjoy through the hills and at the occasional car meet. I’d like it to handle well without becoming so stiff that every drive turns into a chore.
After spending way too many nights reading through old build threads (especially Mr. G’s L200 build) and plenty of other suspension discussions, I’m tossing up between a set of BC Racing coilovers or KYB Excel-G (Excel X2) shocks with King Springs.
Unfortunately, a lot of the old part numbers and links are now dead, so it’s been hard to work out what’s still available and what people are actually running today.
Price isn’t really a deciding factor. I’d rather buy the right setup once than wish I’d gone a different way later.
My questions
For those who own or have owned an L500/L502:
What suspension setup are you running?
Is there another suspension setup I should be considering?
Thanks in advance! I’m really looking forward to hearing what everyone recommends.
Here’s the journey so far
