That reverse light is the bane of my existence, because Daihatsu included that it meant the license plate had to be off centre, which I hate and have to fix. It then meant Daihatsu put the keyhole and indent below it for your hand off centre too, so I have to fix those! I’ve filled the rear wiper hole and keyhole (it’s a keyless entry popper to open now), and I have to modify the rear bumper to get everything in the centre, more on that later.
Starting the vinyl wrap in Avery Dennison Roaring Thunder satin/semi gloss.
Wrapping the headlight surround is maybe the hardest piece I’ve ever had to do, the one on the left is the plastic textured original, the one on the right is wrapped. Such a small difference! But they must properly match other bits that will be wrapped in satin black, so it had to be done.
The wrap coming along. I’ve done everything other than the rear quarters/sides, they need to first be cut and welded to allow for the much wider rear wheels and fender flares.
The side skirts and rear bumper are basically the only aftermarket parts you can get for a Midget, everything else has to be made custom. Even the body kit is being extensively modified, part one is filling these strakes in the side that are totally unecessary.
Modifying the rear bumper to accept the Jimny tail lights, get rid of the original reversing light, get rid of more tasteless strakes in the original part, and ultimately move the license plate to the centre
Now part modified for the tail lights etc. Note the still off centre hand cut out to open the tailgate. Undecided if I’ll just centre it, or get rid of altogether.
