Hi chaps, hallo iedereen! I’m Nepurun, I’m 26 years old, living in France.
I own a L901 Daihatsu Move that I’m stupidly obsessed by and very proud of, picked it up in 2024 in that heaven place we call the Netherlands and still racking a few minor issues, but the EJ-DE sure is a blast to drive. (106k-115.000km today) (MT, no A/C)
I’m a Daihatsu fan, especially in love with the Move for a few years already, owned another green Move only for a few months, one of the only 150 units sold in France.
My goal in life is to get other kei-cars and more Moves, only weird, unknown and out-of-place cars people have never seen before. (L6 Move, Daihatsu Midget 2, Subaru R2, Alto Lapin, Honda N-One, WiLL Cypha…)
Issues? Uh… random smoky cold starts, oil and coolant sipper, winky sidelights, can turn off unexpectedly when braking, faulty ignition barrel—nothing worth removing that smile on my face.
Welcome! I love moves and miss the one I had. Your L900 looks very different to the L601’s we got in Australia, Ours came with the 850cc ed20 efi engine. @b_hoves Ejde swapped his when he had it and it was really nice. Vaccum issue or brake booster with the random cuttiing out when brakes put on? maybe? Smiles sounds unbreakable. That is the most important one.
The smoke on cold starts sounds like it is a valve stem seal problem. Unless it bothers you or you get stopped for it I would not worry to much about it, just keep an eye on your oil level.
Welcome! cars looks familiar hehe. The Netherlands surely has a goldmine of low mileage moves because only the elder liked and bought these kinda cars back then and only use them for groceries. Same with the Wagon R/Agila that are more popular unfortunately.
Oil is most likely valve seals but not that big of a problem, just keep the oil topped. Coolant could be a really small leak at the waterpump housing. I have a leak there because of wrong coolant used by previous owner. Should be G11 blue but previous owner used G12 pink..
The electrical stuff and brake problem i wouldnt know unfortunately.
Thank you, I’ve been happy when I saw yours being almost identical on Reddit
Yeah! That’s exactly why I’m calling it heaven haha, autootje fun—I’m watching the few known to be on the road in France, in case they ever pop up for sale.
Probably, I’m regularly checking oil and coolant, it drinks a bit from time to time.
Unfortunately, it kind of died at the very moment I arrived at the EMWalhalla event entrance gate in May after a 600km drive… It runs on 2 cylinders and is weaker than a L200 Mira lmao and makes a Subaru 360 noise. ( 54 pk - 33% = 36 pk) I make an appearance on HubNut’s video about the EMWalhalla, the engine noise is awful
A friend changed the spark plugs and drove with it, and they get soaked in oil and coolant.
I’m patiently waiting to be able to get a new EJ-DE and get it swapped, or manage to replace the head gasket, whatever’s the easiest. (french mechs aren’t keen nor cooperative working on Dais)
Updates will follow here anyway, I want to keep it alive !
I created a small card that’s now on display on my windshield, acting as a (ok) boomer board and oil change sticker, blatantly inspired by the kind of aesthetics I like. (hint: y2k, nostalgia, frutiger aero)
Ah its you Nepurun from reddit haha, never realised
Ah thats sad, i wanted to attend the event too but i missed it. Such a perfect event for the Moves. I just checked the video and it indeed sounds very sad
Luckily swapping isnt too hard because of the size of the thing but we’ll see when the Red Nugget will see the road again
