New M100 Owner in awe

Ok I’m all for learning new things. pulls out pad and pen I have never considered spring rates before and just brought off the shelf gear. How would one put chocks in the springs? Do you mean actually in between the coils or on top of the springs? What do I use as a chock?

Welcome to the forum mate!

It’s really nice to see such a positive introduction along with the excellent replies, this is why me and @evilhighway do this for.

Thanks guys

This is what they use in NASCAR

So yes a chock in the spring. Every bit of spring you cancel out increases spring rate. It’s not a permanent solution as one ends up with reduced travel. But it is good for testing and figuring out which direction to go with how many pounds/inch is needed. I’ve used everything from timber to rhs steel jammed in. Note though you don’t want it coming out while testing. So I put really big hole in the material I use so I can hold it in with massive zip times.

Hay guys,

Would you consider 6kgs light or heavy for a 15x7 rim?

Welcome DJ.
I am also pretty new around here.
My Nissan failed me. I was able to use a M100 to transport two overseas guests around the southwest. I was so Impressed I went and bought a M101.
The extra power. Makes a big difference passing roadtrains etc.
I also live a long way from Perth.
As soon as I picked it up I put a 22" light bar on my he front. More light soon. Now after 10.000km of long runs at 4-5000rpm I am well impressed.
I quite often use Highway One which has become on of the worst major highways in AU’s. The suspension definitely needs upgrading. I have just put on a good pair of standard rear shocks which made a significant difference.
The guy I bought mine from has owned 14 M100s. His advice is change the oil religiously at 10000km.
He told me he has pulled apart smoky ones and at 240,000 km and found the original hone marks on the bores.
He would give them a light hone. New pistons and rings and sell them on.
Mine did not come with aircon. The seller supplied me with all of the aircon parts from an M100 but they are different.
When I get time I will machine up a compressor pulley.
Meanwhile a Auto M102 came up so I bought it as well. I have only done about 25 km in it. It seems to be spinning about 500 rpm slower than the manual at 100 km which surprises me.
I am going to Perth soon to pick it up. So more on that later.
I learnt a lot from the above comments about suspension. I won’t be lowering mine as I use it on some gravel roads and its low enough already.
Have fun
Regards Whitworth

That’s awesome mate. Yea I’m wondering what it’s going to be like trying to pass the road trains out here with a little 3cyl lol.
Good to know about the servicing as I’m sure all m1 owners are aware there is no repair manuals. Well none I can find, (would be happy to be proven wrong on that one😁) Sounds like you have a lot fun in these cars and it just makes me want to drive mine more. Today is the day hopefully the truck arrives.

A 6kg rim is a bit heavy in my opinion. but about the norm for most cast.

In regards to the repair manual, get in touch with Bob Fudge on the Daihatsu Enthusiast Performance Facebook page. He has the workshop manuals for all models of sirion and will mail you a CD of them for 10pound (GBP) including shipping. The frequent oil changes are to assist the oil drain holes on the pistons, as they are too small and will get clogged up if servicing is not frequent enough.

Thanks @b_hoves I was hoping to wrong on that one. Interesting to know about the oil drains, how often to you change your oil? And with what grade?

It’s a bit late for my car as previous owners haven’t kept up with servicing regularly and my car consumes oil. Since I’ve had it I’ve changed the oil twice a year with this stuff..

Awesome I got the same grade but in Penrith brand. I think with the low amount of Kay’s I’m doing i will end up changing it every 6 months as well.
