Oil cooler hoses cb90 engine

Hi,
I need help with schematic of cooling system for the engine type cb90 (water cooling pipes going into and from oil cooler and how and where they should be connected).
After bad mechanic work, who thought it’s a good idea to bypass or rather disconnect oil cooler, the car has unsteady rotations on the idle gear - sorry if the translation isn’t proper, english is not my first language, so i’m not sure about technical terms. So I need to find where this mechanic plugged the hose or how he bypassed the oil cooler to be able to connect everything as it was originally (in hope unsteady rotations is his “repair” fault).
In the Workshop Manual for Charade g100 and CB-Engines Manual there’s no general diagram for all the cooling system hoses and where and how they all should be properly connected (I’m not sure if the mechanic didn’t change some connections in order to bypass oil cooler)…
Unfortunatelly in my country it’s very hard to find a mechanic who would want to work with such an old car, and especially someone who will not screw something up (Charade g100 1992 40 kW 993ccm).
All help would be very appreciated!

Hey Visenna,

Glad you have joined us. I am no expert on the cb but there should be some here that can help. We do ask new users to post an intro in the “all new people” section. A pic of the car is always good and any info about what you use your Dai for, intend to use it for or any other interesting info. If longer term users can see an intro and have a bit more context it’s more like you are part of the family and it can spur them on to help.

Regards,

Gormsby

Welcome to the forum, Two really good sites for parts diagrams are Amayama.com and partsfan.com. I have checked and the Charade G100 isn’t listed on Amayama, but it does appear to be present on partsfan:

https://partsfan.com/daihatsu/jp/dd8663ae086c0a440fbf92a5fa9ad031/2ec1d8c381fbdb580b2bed00e3b66a87/

You will need to sign up to get the diagrams but it should give you an exploded illustration of the engine and components and provide part numbers too.

In any event, where there’s one line left open, there should be a second open line left visible somewhere. Perhaps, have the vehicle hoisted, so that the engine’s hidden side can get inspected

Thank You very much, I’ll try there!

We do know where the other end is - the previous mechanic changed a 3-ways valve to straight one, thus disconnecting an oil cooler. But not entirely sure how to correct his bad work and how all the valve should go. Although my mechanic friend looked at all the connections and he said he probably knows already-hope his right. It’s unfortunately the third time my poor little car encountered a bungler:(
I know most mechanics don’t want to work with old cars, and I understand it, so he could have just said so, and instead he lied and made everything worse and harder (no mechanic likes to correct work of another, because he doesn’t know what the previous did). Ishould have looked at everything after I got the car back, but it didn’t even cross my mind until now that he said he’ll put a different 3-way valve in place of rusted one and he just… didn’t… Put a 2-way there and after 2 times I came back because the engine was having unsteady rotations he still pretended he doesn’t know why and “looked” for a problem in different parts (spark plugs, ignition etc.).

I’m guessing, nobody here can help you, because the Daihatsus which have oil coolers of this type were sold to countries which have hot climates, hinting that your vehicle was imported from one of such countrues.
The blocked-off plumbing for a water-cooled oiling system shouldn’t affect how your engine is running, given that even if this cooler were to serve as a method of quickly warming up coolant water during an extremely cold winter, the coolant water will still warm up much quicker than the engin’s oil will.
If every Charade didn’t have this type of oil cooler, you can certainly do without it, in Poland’s cooler climate

Thank You for answering. In Poland most mechanics prefer to just search errors in the computer and change the part, not waste time searching for problems in older cars without computers:)
As for oil cooler-from my research not every Charade has this part-it depends what engine is inside. Unfortunately the previous mechanic also thought it would be ok if he disconeccted it in Poland-but as it seems he was wrong and it has nothing to do with climate-probably some sensor was going crazy with this done.
My mechanic friend managed without schemes, he connected everything back and the car is great again-no unsteady rotations, no problems with ignition, quieter engine work, and probably fuel use will be back to normal also (it was higher, probably because of problems with rotations). I’ve just gotten it back!

I’m closing the topic, since my Daihatsu is healthy again  although if someone would have schemes for Charade or CB90 engine, please let me know-you never know when they can be of use. Thanks for every answer!
