Hey all,
Since a couple of weeks I hear a grinding noice while turning. It happens when I’m driving 50kmh + and happens on the left side. When the grinding starts the VSC/traction light flashes and when the grinding stops the lights dissapear. You can also feel the brake pedal pulsating as if the brake pressure changes.
At first I thought there was something wrong with the brakes etc but noting to be found. Changed the brake caliper and the problem still persists. I checked everything and nothing grinds/everything looks normal.
Now in trying things I found out that when I remove the fuse from the ABS2 the grinding and noice stops. When I turn the traction control off the grinding still happens. So I think it has something to do with the VSC thinking im going into a spin when I turn.
Since this is the only Daihatsu I know which has this system and traction control, I’m not sure how the system works exactly. I assumed it worked in combination with the ABS sensors but since I have no problems with the ABS and that light never flashes I’m not sure if the VSC uses the same sensors.
Does anyone have any experience with this problem or how the VSC system works? I tried finding a wiring diagram but it doesn’t seem to be present on the forum.

Just a thought, but could it be that there is a miscommunication between a steering input sensor and the VSC?
I’m just brainstorming at this moment… A true sign of despiration xD

Are you able to check the sensor ring? could be missing a tooth or something. Yes if the steering angle sensor isnt calibrated or malfunctioning the abs could be triggered. When u say grinding is that just the abs engaging the brakes?

I’ll go check the steering sensor. I’ve changed the steering wheel to a Momo from another sirion. So I might have damages it somehow. Is the yellow sensor ring behind the steeringwheel also for the steering input or only for the airbags?
I don’t think it’s the abs that’s trying to brake. On another sirion one of the abs sensors was a bit iffy so sometimes the abs came on but not in this case. This car never had problems with the brakes before (apart from one caliper being stuck). The traction control is flashing when the grinding starts and sometimes the VSC light also come on.
The ring yes also contains the steering angle sensor, there usually is a ribbon cable in there that can snap, if u don’t have it centered and turn too much in one direction.

Checked the ring and nothing seems wrong. Turned it round like the instructions said. So it seems I have to dig deeper. Will keep you posted but it might take some time before I can continue.

Sometimes the abs pump also fails.
Ate pumpd do have this common issue when they age
Never really thought about the abs as the problem since the abs light never comes on. But I do think that it’s an option I shouldn’t ignore. When I’m finished with the trailer I’ll tear the car down. Going on a vacation next month so I really hope to find something…
