Hi all
I’ve recently acquired a 2003 Daihatsu Sirion Rallye2. I got it for a bargain as it had failed MOT and im in the process of sorting that out.
Previous fail was on the emissions tests and when we did a port scan we saw fault codes for 2 lambda sensors which we’ve replaced. Re port scanned and the codes have cleared so that’s one step closer,
My friendly mechanic did a pre emissions check for me as we knew that had failed before and alas failed this check again,
SExhaust smells a bit eggy which he thinks is due to the cat failing,
We have put cat cleaner through the system but haven’t had much opportunity to get it really hot as it’s not legal to drive yet. I’m thinking I’ll go and sit with it and rev it hot for half an hour and see if we burn out the crap in the cat but failing that we’ll need to replace the part,
I’ve found this on amayama https://www.amayama.com/en/genuine-catalogs/epc/toyota-japan/duet/M101A/147897/engine/1701
which looks like specific part, but my question is is there anything that shares this engine and part that I could source instead? Looking at mk1 Yaris the part is plentiful but I suspect the manifold is going to be different.
Any advice? Alas can’t show the part as it currently on the vehicle,
Thanks
Mike

Hi mate, you could source some headers and put an after market Cat further down the system maybe?

Stainless steel headers/extractors, either ceramic coated or tape-wrapped, would be the ideal way out. Of course, the floor pan would need to be modified, leaving a bump behind the driver’s or passengers feet, depending on which side the stering wheel’s placed. Both Lambdas could be placed in front and behind the catalyst each.
If that’s too inconvenient to deal with, I’d go with the Toyota item, since it will bolt up to the cylinder head and may likely connect to the stock exhaust pipe. If it indeed doesen’t line up with the pipe, it would still be much less of a hassle to modify accordingly than to cut out the floor pan and welding a new bump onto it

Never been under a sirion but there’s plenty of room in the tunnel of my L200 Mira, about to add a 400c cat and resonator to mine with room to spare. L200s had a similar setup originally with the cat in the manifold. Suggest you have a chat to your local exhaust shop about non stock options

I was hoping to find out that the part for my M101 was the same as other models, but I guess were in specialist territory here.
I’ve been offered a sh part from a 4 cylinder mark 1 which looks like the amayama picture so might have to bite the bullet and swap the parts. Frustrating as there are new parts for mk1 yaris that are the virtually the same price as this sh price - both are cheaper than shipping from Japan though.
