Hello!
Thought I’d start a build thread for my Mira! I’ve had the car for 6 months or so. Had the EF-EL engine with a blown head gasket. Replaced the head gasket and hoped for the best but was still leaking oil. Spent a while tossing up wether to fix it or replace with the EJ-DE. A cheap sirion came up on marketplace so I decided to do the conversion!
Finally got the new engine in yesterday. Still a lot of work to do from here but getting the engine in has got me excited again. One of the subframe bolt holes is cross threaded so I need to get a tap and see if I can get that moving smoothly again. Next is moving over the ECU and figuring out the wiring. And putting in a fuel regulator?
Will also switch over the sirion hubs and brakes at some point but thought I’d just get it on the road first. I ended up keeping the original gearbox. Thought the shorter gears might be more fun around town.
The exhaust was also pretty stuffed so I imagine I’ll need to get one made up or salvage and weld up the old one.
Will update as I make progress!

nice work mate! Use the ejde engine wiring loom and ecu and there should be like 3 or 4 wires from memory to get it running. Its just power and earth.
I’m guessing you know that the Sirion hubs etc are not plug n play and you need some driveshaft mods and L7 Lca’s?
That’s good to hear it’s pretty straight forward. I don’t quite understand it yet. Is it just some of the wires that connect to the fuse relay box in the engine bay that need changing? Do I use the relay box from the sirion?
Yes I realise the LCA need replacing and drive shafts changing which is why I’m going to put it off!
The driveshafts (driver side atleast) need to be custom or cut n shut. The wiring for the engine as I said is more basic dont change fuse box or you will over complicate things. On the sirion engine loom there will be a small green plug that doesn’t go into the ecu. That plug is the key to powering your engine. I cant remember which wires are which but with mine they were spliced into the Big Square plug in the L200 Engine bay. I will go take some pics for you soon to show what I mean.
Not sure this if this will help. But here is some pics to try to help. Keep in mind that this was used for an efdet but an ejde was wired in the same way before it . Also I did not do the initial wiring on my L2 for the EJDE. When I got it it was a spaghetti mess and is still a lot like that.
If this helps great, just the colours may vary depending on your engine loom. There is also heaps on info on this forum regarding this. @144p has some good info as well as @ceiliee have some good write ups regarding pinouts and the swap.
Here is the pics for you incase it helps also.
The plug you will look for in your L200 ^^^
wires on the other side of the plug (ejde side) Yellow to yellow ^^^
yellow/red stripe to black ^^^
white red stripe to white red stripe^^^
White silver dot to white silver dot (many) ^^^I believe this is for injector’s etc
Black yellow stripe to black yello stripe..
As said not sure if this helps but there is many on here that have done it and Im sure you will be able to get it sorted.
Oh fantastic! Thank you for taking those photos.
I’m having a crack at it now.
Below is a photo of the plug that I’m guessing I need to cut from the sirion so it can plug back into the sirion ecu? Wanted to check before I go cutting it.
And then basically connect to this plug from the Mira loom? So that it can plug into the fuse/relay setup in the Mira engine bay?
I found this pdf which lists all the connections that need to made in the sirion plug
So I’ll need to find the injectors and coil cables in the sirion loom also.
On the right path?
I ended up cutting the plug and wiring it in. Couldn’t get anything on the dash to work but the starter did turn over. Maybe I have switched current wrong? I still haven’t wired in the injectors or coil. Any thoughts on why nothing on the dash would work? I don’t think the sirion had an immobiliser.
Had another fiddle and got further! Fuel pump priming and everything in the dash working. Might have been an earth?
Have to plumb up the fuel now. Do I need a fuel pressure regulator? I don’t think the Mira has a return fuel line.
That wasn’t the plug I was referring to. The one that I was referring too in the ejde engine loom is a small one usually green or maybe blue in colour that does not connect into the ecu.
The mira has a fuel return line it is the largest of the steel fuel lines. The ejde fuel rail does not have a return line. You will need an adjustable FPR and using a T-piece.
First fuel goes to the “T- piece” then straight though to the “FPR” the other one on the “T-piece” goes to the return line.
The outlet from the FPR goes to the fuel rail.
Once running adjust the FPR to 40-45 ish and that will work fine.
That guide is a good guide for pinouts etc too.
You will only have 2 plugs from the Ejde engine loom plugged into your ejde ecu
Managed to get it running! Runs for a second and stops
I think maybe the ecu has an immobilizer. Looks like the easiest thing to do is pin it out?
Thanks for the fuel return info. Will get a fuel pressure regulator and set it up. The way you’ve suggested is with the regulator and return before the fuel rail? And doesn’t require tapping the rail?
Is the ecu cover black plastic or metal?
No its just rubber fuel line hose that goes to the rail.
When starting it get someone to spray start ya bastard or similar (brake cleaner works) into the throttle body to see if it will keep running. Did the car the ejde come out of have an immobiliser and key reader?
It’s the metal cover ecu. Moved the immobilized over and wired it in and it runs. So that was the issue!
Now that it’s running time to get onto all the other jobs.

well done. glad that its all sorted
Finally got a little more time to move onto the other things. Do you need where I can buy a new clutch cable?
Are you using an L200 gearbox or sirion one?
@NikMF can get them over here from Malaysia.
Oh yes? That would be so helpful. I was wondering if I’d have to fabricate one.
