Daiharris Track/Streeter L200 build.. The quest for hilarity

Holy long time between updates!

So I’ve been a bit sick lately, I won’t go into details but mentally I haven’t been great… Anyways that has prevented working on the car but the last few days I’ve felt a bit better so gotten out there and got stuck into it…

So my coilovers came, I just got those cheap ones for the meantime until I csn sort out a proper solution. Tbh with you they actually seem to be pretty good quality… I didn’t have high hopes but the welds seem good and the springs aren’t thin and nasty but obviously I haven’t driven on them yet… I got 5kg fronts and 4 kilo rears but the spring size seems to be pretty common so can change it up need be…

You csn see the new LCA’s in there as well as new bolts and everything, always good when shit comes together…

The rears were a bit more of mission because i assume they haven’t been changed I’m about 40 million years, but after fucking around with them finally got it sorted…

And finally installed… You can also see the redrilled rear hubs there that were an easy solution to a bigger problem that I’ll fix later…

So then I stuck the wheels on and dripped the car down, and it was sitting on the rears… Like, it was way to wide, 205s just do not work…

Thankfully I have a solution I’ll go into later…

I also managed to find a widish set of 13s for track wheels, they are 13x6+18, so obviously they are rwd offset but they were cheap and I was considering flares anyways, but for the meantime these will have to do… I’m actually going to pick them up from the depot tomorrow morning but I have this photo for now…

I know they are just random steelies but I think that they will suit the style I’m going for as well as save money for other places like tyres…

A few other things have come in whilst I’ve been MIA, my shift knob, which is sort of a joke at my local track because i always seem to have a dildo knob of some sort in every car I’ve raced there…

Also I talked my friend into bringing me back a present from Japan, and he awesomely boubough the back the nardi torino he had on his drift car… I dont have a photo of it but it’s good…

Also my turbo came, it’s a td04l-13t-6 so shouldn’t be too big for the Ej but should get me to 100hp at the wheels fairly easily. E85 will help with that for sure to keep the timing down and stop detonation…

So the next thing to do is swap the wheels from my new car onto the Mira so I can push the car out and pressure wash the engine bay ready for engine in…

THE NEW CAR

As I mentioned earlier in the thread I hate my daily, it’s a 2004 Subaru Liberty Spec B, but it’s just soulless… It’s a lovely car to drive, but it’s boring as shit… So I’m gonna sell it…

Fortunately for me a friend of mine msgd me saying he was going to sell his 1998 Sirion, which has air con and is manual, and he didn’t want much for it…

$400 bucks later and here it is… Luckily a guy I race with owns a towing business so I get basically free tows, thank God for that…

82 thousand fuxking k’s… The engine bay is clean as shit, and the interior is relatively good, just a bit dirty…

So yeah, that’s it for now… Hopefully everything works tomorrow with the wheel swap over, then I can clean the engine bay because i think it has a bit of surface rust on an area so I’m gonna steel wheel it and then sand it and repaint it before engine in…

Did a de-cat on my a friend’s B-spec Liberty on Sunday, deburred all exhaust connections (lots of lips) and improved all the connection transitions throughout the inlet tract. Noticeable difference but still a little doughyness. I am certain that the real issue is a really heavy flywheel. We’ll do that and wave some magic over the throttle body too. I have to say the B spec is a great vehicle to tow a race car with.

Sirion, nice! Each time I work on one I my appreciation for what great value they are just heightens.

Hope you are doing better soon. I’ve had a shocking week. Had to do that work on the B spec to get my mind off uni crap. Had a lecture fail my last paper and say that my work should have been a reflection about myself (it was, but I wrote in third person) and said my topic was way off (I provided a copy of her response to an earlier request for the topic to be approved to which she had responded “very good. I am looking forward to reading your work”. The turnaround on marking was two days. I asked for a remark. That took her two hours and my grade went from 45% to 54" but with no feedback and no marking on the work. On top of this her lecture material is full of contradictions and her assessment guidance given in online lectures deviates away the information on the subject portal. I made a request to the course convenor for feedback on my work. Anyway the whole thing ended up being elevated to the Head of School. At first he stood up for the lecturer. Then I provided him a cohesive piece with screen shots of the lectures, her emails to me, screen shots of my work as could be seen within the portal submission point showing it was not marked. The whole class have had their marks pulled down and I have had an apology from the Head of School. Quite a few sleepless nights on my part. I believe my assignment was spot on and should have not been so different grade wise to any of my other work for which I am averaging 78%. One more paper and I graduate - again. Next year some Voc Ed study and back to some advanced classes in vacuum bagging carbon fibre.

@Daiharris, good progress. Looking forward to the bolt in and start up. Apparently L2/L5 mira can only get away with 175/50/15 tires according to one of the Malaysians.

10psi and up easy 100hp. What management are you planning on running?

Yeps shouldn’t be an issue. I think the question will be how well the setup handles the power, as Gormsby said my next major thing to find is a fucking lsd, because otherwise I’ll just be spinning inside wheels like no ones business…

Ecu wise I’m gonna run a link g4, as my mate has one in his supercharged swift but is upgrading to something else so I’ll get it cheap cheap… Tbh a link would have been my choice anyways as that’s what my tuner is best at. Plus it handles flex fuel sensor so e85 gonna be easy.

So just a very minor update, I picked the wheels up from the depot today… I think they look pretty good all things considered, I’ll paint them white so they look like old school steelies and then deal with the 6+18 offset later hahahaha

Yeah the tyres will be the saving grave I think. As I said earlier, my mate runs AR1s in 215 on his supercharged fwd swift sport. That thing has over 250hp at the wheels but he does have a lsd…

Fucken hell… I got relatively lucky in my time at uni but the only thing I had an issue with was a class called ‘power and protest’ which basically centred around the fact that only white people cam be racist… I shit you not… I’m a loud mouth argumentative person so obviously the first tutorial I argued up a storm… Eventually I realised this was a stupid class and I just shut up…

I did my assessment on white privilege in Zimbabwe and the collapse of Rhodesia… I got a Pass… Just…

Alright so I sorted out my problem… The swaybar wasn’t fitting so I had to get different sway bar bushes and grind them down and shit.

But finally got it all sorted, pushed it into the yard and gave it a pressure wash…

It all came up good except in the engine bay there is section with a decent whack of rust… It doesn’t look serious and I think it’s mainly surface but I’m gonna hit.it with a wire brush tomorrow to see how bad it is…

Other than that car cleaned up good, lots of dirt and shit came.off so it definitely looks better than it did before…

Alright so got the wire brush attachment for the drill, and keep in mind, all of this shit is a learning experience for me… I have modified all of my previous cars but that has all sort of been bolt on shit, nothing like repainting bays and engine swaps and that, so mind the dodginess… That was the other reason I chose a Mira, I wanted something cheap that I could build 100% myself, from drilling our coilovers to grinding rust to painting shit to wiring, the plan is to do it all 100% myself…

So the engine bay rust, it actually wasn’t as bad as I thought at first… I got the wire brush attachment and went to town…

Ignore the terrible photos, the car is in a spot that’s half in the sun so the photos look terrible, you csn see what’s happening though

So once I got the bad parts sorted I noticed there was what is apparently called rust pitting(says google) and it’s not too bad… So I’m gonna finish the grinding tomorrow, then stick some rust paint on it, sand it back and then paint that side of the bay… I found a red that seems to be the same so I should be able to just do that side since the rest of the bay is in very good nick…

I also managed to finally get my old booster off, I have had to change these in every car I’ve owned and i fucking hate it, I hate leaning in backwards to get the bolts, but finally after fucking around she popped out…

Also I got the missus to attach my fancy nardi and my dildo knob, tbh I’m not a huge fan of the knob but I stick to a joke so it will do for now…

So next thing is to finish Bay, paint Bay then I can put the replacement booster and bmc in… Both of those are replacement items I’ve had rebuilt by my friend at brskemart, so once those go in I can sort out brake lines…

The only other issue I’m seeing right now is I don’t 109% understand how the shift linkage actually work, I’m hoping once I’m under the car I’ll be able to woek it out but I’ve had a google and haven’t found any real walkthroughs yet…

Alrighty so more updates!

I think they turned out good… Kind of old school looking but not over the top… I’m still on the hunt for a good set of super advans but these will do until then…

So after grinding off the rust I stuck some fish oil shit and rust converter on it. Then I sprayed this putty shit over the top and left it, then sanded it and sprayed again… Did that a few times, finally left it overnight and the next day it looked pretty good…

Next day I paint matched the bay colour at a paint shop and got it in a spray can and sprayed that part if the bay… Tbh it doesn’t look flawless but for now it’s ok…

So whilst I was doing the booster and reattaching it to the pedal in the footwell I looked up and was greeted with the worst amount of shitty wiring I’ve ever seen… I don’t know if that’s what it’s like stock, or someone has done something at some stage but it was terrible… Obviously being the smart man I am I made the knee jerk decision to take the dash out…

So yeah ripped it out, decided I wanted to stick one fancy shit in the dash whist cleaning up the wiring behind it so that’s what’s happening right now…

I have always wanted a push button start so obviously I bought one, will wire that up and maybe the fuel pump to one of the other switches…

Also ordered a set of Foglight things to go on the bottom outside corner of the front bumper, but so they are yellow and ‘legal’ I got some yellow shit and stuck it on there…

Also formula one fans will recognise this, but I’m 100% going to attach this to the rear bar right at the very bottom in the middle and wire it to the brake lights… Hilarious…

So I’ve been a bit MIA, and it comes with some bad news… Extremely long story short, my missus was six months preggers and has miscarried, and its hit us both pretty hard mentally and financially…

So unfortunately I have to sell up everything for the meantime and hopefully the Mira plan can restart further down the road…

I’m going to keep dailying the sirion which now has the coilovers in it but everything else I’ve purchased is going to be up on Facebook in the next few days for sale… So if any of you want any of this shit let me know and I’ll do a deelio cause you guys have helped me with the build…
