Daiharris Track/Streeter L200 build.. The quest for hilarity

Ignore me listen to evil highway. My going through all of that is some years ago

Yeah itā€™s an ej engine and box from a cuore, but what your saying is trueā€¦ The pressure plate seems to be way to big as well as the clutch plateā€¦

When doing mine the L80, I think, had a bigger (than L200) diameter clutch and presure plate We looked at that and also looked at an MG Midget pressure plate for the L200 flywheel. In the end we altered the L200 pressure plate by making a new ring for the diaphragm to pivont on, and Jim Berry made a custom clutch plate using a std center clutch spline. The pivot meant more pedal travel for more progressive movement and that suited balance/feel of the on/off clutch friction material and its solid centre. I still have another solid centre with same spline and high rate presure plate but both bigger diameter. Can you send diameters that you are dealing with?

Yeps I will get some measurements when I get homeā€¦ Thanks for your help boysā€¦ This is the first headache Iā€™ve come acrossā€¦ Hahaha

Also thought is update what is going on with thr dribeshaft situationā€¦ So Facebook and an English based daihatsu forum seems to be saying that an L500 driveshaft from the long side will go into the l700 box and will be the right length so I can run the L200 shaft short sideā€¦

However oldmate Malaysian friend is saying that the long side shaft from an auto ED10 is what I need, so it looks like tonight Iā€™m going to come home and spend hours scouring the internet for all the different lengths and teeth spline numbers of basically every daihatsu cv ever madeā€¦

I know the jackshaft is an option but if I can find an off the shelf shaft from another dai and make it work that might be easier for anyone doing this further down the trackā€¦

Sorry Ive confused myself somwhere here. Going back to the clutch, your saying that the bigger clutch and pressure plate in the pic wont even fit on the flywheel of the ej engine? If so then disregard what I said. I tend to remember people in the past getting an ej flywheel clutch and pressure plate only to find it wont fit within the L2,5 bellhousings of those gearboxes properly.

I know Mr G Has all his stuff worked out perfectly in his car when it comes to clutch and the non ejde gearbox.

As for drive shafts If your using the sirion box then I dont know what the lengthā€™s etc are. Also If your staying with the 4x110 stuff on your mira with a mira gearbox then you shouldnā€™t have to change the shafts. But if your going 4x100 and or using a sirion box then you may have to go different lengthā€™s.

I can tell you what I did on mine and that is 4x100 for wheels etc and l200 gearbox,
For the long side I used a jackshaft as you probably already know and I used a copen short shaft on that with the correct outer cv.
For the short side I used a copen short shaft and I believe (can quite remember) it was plug and play.

For the long side I tried, sirion, copen, charade (g203) and applause. all too long and ofcoarse the l200 stuff which was too short.

I think I even measured up my suzuki swift shaft also for the long side and it was going to be too long also.

Yeah it wonā€™t even go on the flywheel at allā€¦ I think oldmate that sold it to me bought it under the impression it would fit but never checked or somethingā€¦

As for the shafts I realised that one of the dues in my race series works at a cv shaft place (doh) so I gave him a call, he said to mount the two L200 shafts in the box out of the car and then just measure the difference, then he can punch those numbers into his computer and in theory it should give him a list of shafts that will fitā€¦ Then swap over the cv ends on the hub side and it should all bolt upā€¦

Thanks for the help though boys, much appreciated as alwaysā€¦

Would be good to get some real shaft info/data into the wiki. I have some pics somewhere with shafts lying against tape measures. But alas there are no names what each were out of.

Yeah that will be the planā€¦ Hopefully my cv shaft guy has an easy replacement, surely with all the cars out there something will be the right sizeā€¦

I do have a really big shaft collection. However, not much is marked as to what it came from. About a quarter of them I can tell at sight what they are from. Then there is mix and match. So the data needed for the wiki is plain axle lengths without ball race/assembly fitted, and with fitted. Of course with fitted to both ends compressed and extended lengths are needed. Diameters, spline countā€¦

Unfortunately I threw out most of what I had when i moved from NSW to QLD. I kept a couple of stock mira ones and that was about it. I also didnt label etc but could tell most of what they were from looking at what I had also.

Alright so the plan this arvo was to separate the the cvs from the hubs, so I could get some real measurements and whatnotā€¦ Did the longside first, hub nut had clearly never been taken off but I chucked it all in the vice with thr vice gripping the old brake disc and bam, long one doneā€¦

Second one, as happens so often when working on cars, was fuckedā€¦ Geeā€™d it up the same way, put my breaker bar on the hub nut and BAM! The hub nut and cv just spin freely whilst the brake disc is still firmly locked in placeā€¦ So apparently whoever was driving the car before me didnā€™t have any power going to that wheel, and thus no way problemā€¦ I mount the cv sideways in the vice, with the vicey bit grabbing the actual cv shaft, tighten it as tight as possible, I hear a loud crack but canā€™t see anything on the actual shaft, and then the front of the vice falls offā€¦ Apparently I smashed the shit out of it, so tomorrow is a trip to bunnings for a new vice, then Iā€™m gonna mount the hub from the long side onto the gearbox end of the short one, stick that hub into the new vice and turn the hub nut againā€¦

Also I cut my fingerā€¦

So designated dog pictureā€¦ We had a pet expo here on the weekend so I went with my mate who has a fully caged, supercharged swift sport that has about 190kws at the wheelsā€¦ He also has a Pyrenees mountain dog, named Thor, and he is awesomeā€¦

OKā€¦HERE WEEEE GOOOOOOO

IF youā€™re going to use the EJ gearbox; your clutch options are:

  1. EJ disc, pressureplate and flywheel

  2. EF/ED pressureplate, flywheel with EJ DISC (I went this route and the only issue I encountered was the clutch travel was far; if you look at Mr. Gā€™s project thread you can see recommendation on how to mod the throw out bearing to get around this

you have to use the EJ disc as the EJ input shaft is 20spline, the ED/EF input shaft is 18 spline

NEXT; IF YOUā€™RE GONNA USE THE EJ GEARBOX, as stated earlier youā€™re gonna have to make custom shafts; the Malaysians told me that the ED20 AUTOMATIC shafts are the perfect length; I didnā€™t come across that, so I made my own.

the left side would have to be shorter and the right side longer; when I was doing my measurements I was advised to measure from the inside end of each spline

AWESOME!!! Thatā€™s the exact sort of information I was afterā€¦ The clutch isnā€™t a big deal as I cab just grab an EJ exedy one with pressure plate for 250 bucks, but the cvs are an interesting issueā€¦

Some people have said that I can use the L200 shaft on the short side but the long side is the issue, I suppose weā€™ll see when I get it dummied upā€¦ My shaft guy seems to be pretty confident we can make something work without having to go completely custom on the long side, but ultimately if thatā€™s what has to be done then so be itā€¦

Thanks for the info though bro, thatā€™s super helpful!!!

Alrighty so a bit of an update. Good and bad news as alwaysā€¦

First things firstā€¦ The delivery man came, and gave me thisā€¦

THE WRAP CAME!!! The colour looks awesome, exactly what I wantedā€¦ Also apparently I got 30 metres of the shit, so as this will be mainly done by me and not my car wrapping mate, I can afford to fuck it up a few timesā€¦

So that meant I needed to get all the panels cleaned upā€¦ One of my side skirts is smashed so I donā€™t know how Iā€™m going to deal with that, I assume Iā€™ll just get some skirts off something else and make it workā€¦

Also we got some 3D printers in at work, so obviously I printed Something as a test and it came out terribleā€¦ But, it gave me some ideasā€¦

Thatā€™s the washer bottle lid for a cuore washer bottle, closest thing i could find to Mira stuff but Iā€™ll work on other stuff laterā€¦

So now the down side, remember the stuck cv shaft nut? Well after buying a new vice I realised that the stuck nut was also contained on a cv shaft that had a split in the actual metalā€¦ I donā€™t know how it happened, but Iā€™m sick of looking at it now so Iā€™m just gonna get two new shafts madeā€¦

The other down side was the L700 hubs, for some reason I was under the impression that the L700 hub was going to slide onto the L200 control arm spindle, but nopeā€¦ The L200 spindle is way too thick so I guess Iā€™ll have a search around to see how much longer an l700 control arm is and see if I can make it workā€¦ A few people have said itā€™s considerably longer but if that results in camber around 3 degrees then I can deal with thatā€¦ Iā€™ve also got the L700 steering rack here so I can use those ends need beā€¦

The other good thing is eBay gave me a ten percent off coupon for some reason so my exedy clutch only cost me 225 dollarydoosā€¦

So whilst I wait for the clutch and timing belt kit I also got from eBay I will hunt for a fix for my spindle issueā€¦ I think for my 180 I had a similar issue, where I just bashed the spindle out of the control arm and bashed the right size one inā€¦ Weā€™ll see thoughā€¦ L700 arms and decent camber might be easier, I can always take camber out later with camber tops or somethingā€¦

The other thing Iā€™m going to do is pull the sump off and take it to my tuner so his minions can weld a fitting onto it so I have an oil return fitting sitting there ready for the turbo kitā€¦

Alright thatā€™s it for nowā€¦ Hereā€™s a photo of a cute pug in the meantimeā€¦

Be safe peepsā€¦ Hopefully more positive updates soonā€¦

L700 (or M100) cast steering knuckle/bearing carrier/hub has to go onto onto a L700 control arm ball joint. It will give a little more track and more neg camber but not ridiculus (youā€™ll still want more).

Yeh everything line up fine with L700 and you wont even notice camber. I also replied to you on facebook and then realised it was you. hahaha As I said there the LCAā€™s I got was from dai wreckers and they cost me $175 for a pair including post. so Pricey but thats what i needed and had too as I couldnā€™t find them elsewhere. (copen are the same as L700) as for your return I just got one of these
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Turbo-Oil-Pan-Oil-sump-Return-Adapter-Bung-3-4-19mm-Fitting-no-Weld-90DEG/262271191612?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

and unfortunately it had a ever so slight leak but a little red gasket glue fixed that. I know otherā€™s have use these and not got leaks. I think it was just my typical luck.

Yeah awesome. I thought that would be the case. Cheers broā€¦

Hahahaha yep thatā€™s cars for youā€¦ Awesome alright thanks man Iā€™ll get hunting for a pair of thoseā€¦

Its winter again. Thought it my turn to share a pooch pic :stuck_out_tongue:
