Daiharris Track/Streeter L200 build.. The quest for hilarity

Alrighty… Updates and photos!

So V8 supercars are here this weekend, and it’s my favourite time of the year… Which means I have heaps of energy so the Mira got attacked…

First things first, because the wrap came I had to prepare all the panels for the wrap… One of the things I wanted to do was remove the front grill part from the front bar so I got my Dremel and cut it out…

That’s the only photo I took stupidly so you guys will have to use some imagination…

Next thing was fuel tank removal, all the bolts came out easy but the main big hose bit had fully rusted out clamps on it, so I ended up having to cut it of… Not a big deal because I would have replaced that hose anyways…

I took some more photos of the top of the cradle because I need to sort out a fuel return line, I noticed there was two fittings on it already but apparently the carby models didn’t have a return so I’ll figure out what’s going on later…

So then I pulled the cradle out, and holy shit… I would have been surprised if this car ran at all with the amount of shit on it…

So whilst I look for that info I decided I’d do some other shit… Luckily for me the post man rung the bell and delivered me my clutch… I don’t think it will handle bulk power but it was cheap enough for the meantime so I can get the car running.

So the final thing I did was pull off the outer rear hubs, I think I’ll just go get them redrilled for the moment as it’s the easiest way to get it done and I’m sort of on a deadline now for the end of September when we have our local time attack event on the V8 super car track…

I think that’s it for now, if anyone has any answers to my various questions or whatever let me know… I haven’t actually gone and dealt with the cv shaft yet because I want to have the gearbox together first so I can do real measurements…

Drive safe boys…

How did I not see this? Such a cutie!!!

Carb L200 does have a return line. It’s about 2mm dia smaller than on the efi model from memory. And from what I can see your is a carb version, since the efit does not have that little plastic thingy (is it an anti drain back valve?).

Yeah ok sick, I’m assuming that I cant just use those fittings that are on there due to them being to thin, so that will be something I have to deal with…

Cheers bra

For the “An series” fuel carrier that I’ve made it’s totally custom. The one in there at the moment if the EFI one. When I put the hole in the floor so I could access it the drill hit the the inlet. Anyway I cut the old bit off, drilled it out for 3/8 and silver soldered a fitting back in. I suggest you do that for hte return. However, it does mean destroying (due to heat) the positive power insulated terminal. I remade it on the lathe with a PVC plug insulating the top and a teflon washer on the bottom. Might have pics somewhere will look.

Yeah sweet man a pic would be good if you can… Sorry I didn’t get back to you yesterday I was the v8’s all day… So exhausting hahaha

nice buildtopic and greetings from pierre the pug

Alright so a few more updates… First of all the v8’s were awesome… I’ve been every year and I fucken love it, I spend the entire time walking around looking at slutties and I usually have some sort of hook up that end up with me in the pits of one of the teams…

This year a friends friend is the dunlop series safety car driver, so I had access to multiple areas due to that… My house is actually about 800 metres from the race track so waking up every morning to the sounds of race cars was brilliant, and my entire life goal is to live right near a race track for that exact reason…

As far as car updates go, a few things have happened… Did some practising with the wrap, THIS IS NOT THE ACTUAL COLOUR, they sent me heaps of samples of colours so I’ve been practising with those… The corners were a bit fucked, my heatgun apparently doesn’t work and that’s necessary to do the corners so ignore that part…

So yeah I’m feeling more confident about it, will do anothet run of the fuel cap then try the bonnet with the real colour…

The next thing I did was the fuel pump. Pulled the old one out and it looked like this…

So did some cleaning, organised some new shit, got a pump following on from Gormsbys lead, and here we go…

Yes I recognise the curly hose isn’t great, Im gonna have a talk to my tuner and see if it’s an issue, but I had this exact problem with my last car and it ran fine for 5 years so who knows…

So thst everyone feels good about them selves I wanted to learn how to solder, after a few practice tries I got it to sort of work, here’s my best solder, looks terrible but it holds tight so I can only build for there… again this was just a practice, hopefully by the time I need to actually solder something important I’ll be good hahahah

So I bit the bullet and ordered two brand new cuore LCA’s off ebay in the UK, will be 130 delivered so that’s fine by me, so I’m waiting for those… In the meantime I decided to take my headlights off and clean them up, they were foggy as shit…

So I used some of this shit

And it’s hard to see in the photo but they are substantially better, I think my Malaysian connection said he can hook up brand new ones so depending on how much light gets out of these I might just jump on that…

So one of the problems I’ve found is the o ring for the cradle, it is completely fucked…

Facebook says that the sirion o ring is the same, as is the Toyota paseo apparently… So tomorrow I’ll go to the Toyota dealer and see what we can do…

And finally, the other issue… No matter how hard I look. And i am excellent at the internet, I can not find any brake pads that are high temp to deal with track work for my cuore callipers…

So my question is, those that have done track work, what have you done? I have experienced some terrible brake fade in my time due to shitty pads so I’m not really keen on that…

If it comes down to it I can grab sirion or Copen callipers or whatever it takes really, hopefully one of those just bolt straight upto my l700 knuckle to make it easy…

Alright peace out guys, another small tidbit is my mates Suzuki sport got retuned last week and I was there to act the fool with the tuner and play with buttons, car spun up 189 kws at the wheels on only 11 psi through the supercharger… Pretty decent result.

So yeah, peace our guys… As I said if someone knows some performance brake pads I can use for the l700 callipers let me know, or if I need ro switch to sirion or Copen callipers then so be it…

I am using Sirion and have had Copen on another L200.

Do the callipers of those bolt straight up to the l700 knuckle? Ideally I don’t want to have to fuck around changing knuckles and LCA’s again…

There is something I don’t know. The only thing I have used from an L700 was the cast control arms (you must keep those, the Sirion ones are way way to long). Otherwise I have bought Sirions to wreck and use parts from, so mine has Sirion knuckles. Even though I’ve helped with a 4cyl conversion in a Cuore I just have not looked at or compared L700 knuckles to anything. Sorry. Anyone else know?

ps, I’ve still not got into that pile where the jackshaft could be.

I also have sirion kuckle’s and brakes etc on my move and have l700/copen LCA’s. As for struts I have suzuki wagon r but cuore L700 ones would fit obviously. I guess you may be going a different route for struts though. Oh btw you got those LCA’s cheaper new than what I did get a set 2nd hand from dai wreckers.

All good bro… I think this might be one of the things that I will have to experiment with… You’ve helped me heaps already so I really do appreciate it…

All good with the jackshaft, when it happens it happens… I’ll make it work otherwise…

Hahaha yeah… The downside is I need to wait like 3 weeks for them to get here, but brand new for under 150 bucks is worth the wait I suppose…

Yeah the whole suspension thing hasn’t been addressed yet, I’m planning on getting it registered with the stock suspension and will need to have a look at it properly… I will probably just build some custom fronts with eibachs and koni inserts like I did with my 180, the rear will be a different situation… I want something adjustable for the rear as well due to the different tracks I travel to…

Thanks for the words though brother…

The knuckles for a L700 and M100 are virtually the same a part from the abs sensor and ring pressed onto the hub

Some tips for the soldering, don’t melt the solder onto the iron but rather use the iron to heat the wire and feed the solder directly into the wire. I prefer to have an iron rated at 50watts, in my opinion anything smaller is for circuit board work. Also with a bigger iron you can get the wire hot enough to melt the solder and get the job done before the insulation starts to melt. It also helps to have a wet sponge to clean the iron, make sure its properly tinned and use flux core solder.
It looks like your making good progress on the build though, looking forward to more updates :slightly_smiling_face:
oh and im not sure but maybe DSport do some pads, its worth a look on yahoo auctions if you havnt looked there already

Ok sweet cheers man… I actually had another look and found some high temp rated pads on yahoo Japan so I’m gonna grab those and see how I go… Thanks for the info though man…

Thanks bro… Yeah I started to sort of understand at the end but my patience was running out… It definitely is going to be something I need to practice heaps with, thanks for the advice though…

Yeah I actually had another look on yahoo Japan late last night and came across the Winmax Apr3 which is rated to 800 degrees, 200 dollarydoos for the front set but my options were limited so I pulled the trigger and ordered those… Will hunt around for some decent slotted rotors now, once they all get here I’ll put them all together and give a quick review… I got to the point in the past of always using project mu club racers so will be able to at least compare to those…

Thanks again man… The updates will keep flowing.
