Daihatsu Cuore II 0.8 from Armenia, Yerevan

Hi there! My friend bought himself a first car and it happened to be this super cute little black hatchback Cuore. We absolutely adore it and i try to help him to make it run good and reliable.

Done so far:

Car was bought non-running, with bent valves, they were replaced

Basic maintenance, oil and filters changed

I measured compression and did endoscopy, it gives out 8.0 at each cylinder and the engine is consuming oil now. So now we will be ordering EJ pistons, rings and crank bearings for overhauling

Engine is ED10 block with ED20 head and Volga Gaz-24 126 Carburetor (you cant find any oem parts for cars like this in small Armenia, so we run anything we can find here)

I am very happy to find this forum and thanks to @evilhighway I now have information and understanding that EJ block parts will fit into our ED

Will post when the car will be serviced again!

Welcome to the forum.

Making the ED into a EJ 6 valve sounds like fun. Keep us up to date.

Welcome Vlad, Good to see someone else having some fun with what I have done before.
Let us know how it goes and sing out if any help needed.

@Vlad Your country side looks similar to how mine is in outback Australia.

@DaleJeffree a 6 valve ed with ej pistons was what was in my budget track hack before I sold it. Because ED’s have a habit of the cam timing gear flogging out I put an ef one on there. The timing had very minimal adjustment. Because of that I used to put 4 Litres of E85 in each full tank of fuel just to help reduce and possible knock. After I sold it the new owner did blow it up. I did tell him but…
In that car I got my personal best at QR Raceway. Beating the previous times I got in the turbo move and it was N/A.

Hi there! Finally we pulled out the motor and disassembled it. Crankshaft has already been repaired by someone in past, so we have to do at least 0.50 repair on it (or more). We already found crank and rod bearings and gasket set online, the main question now where do I find a head gasket for ED block that will fit 73mm bore? Should I order custom one?

The car will be a daily driver, not a track one, so the reliability is a top priority

Oil pump seems fine, I think I will leave old one

Advices are very much appreciated

Ej-de gasket will fit onto ED block? Aren’t cooling and oil channels are different?

they have an extra Gallery that hangs over the block at the front but besides that its pretty much the same.

Good day everyone!

We found and ordered all parts for engine repair

Overall parts cost is around 400 AUD including pistons, gaskets, timing belt, im amazed how cheap it is

For anyone who needs part numbers they all listed here:

Head gasket torque specs:

EJ gasket fits right in on ED block except this little engine ventilation thingy, i suppose i just cut a bit off from gasket?

man this thing will go FAST lmao

cant wait to bore it and assemble

also we will put new 1.1l carburetor from VAZ 21081, Solex instead of current 2.1l gaz volga

Did you empty the catylitic converter? If not, it will heat excessively, if the repacement carburetor runs too rich

in Armenia NOBODY has cats hahaha

when converter goes bad they just cut it out and thats it

this country doesnt really have any vehicle inspection required to drive on public roads, it was only introduced this year, but it opened a big corruption window because the inspection is being done by individual entepreneurs services and for around 15 bucks you can just buy it from them.

roads and ecology are absolute shit here, soo, yeah, catalytic converters is the least thing armenian goverment worries about

huge death rate on roads, nobody buckles up. in heavy rain and snow conditions people were driving bald summer tyres, and only this winter it became a must to change to winter tyres. about half of cars dont have their lights on in bad weather conditions, these roads are dangerous.

i myself ride a Yamaha Vino 2 stroke 70cc scooter for 4 years already, ive been into mutiple road accidents, you just cant avoid it here, drivers are stupid. 10 years ago anyone could buy a driving license with a bribe, nowadays it became better, but still there are lots of drivers who doesnt know how to drive at all

We took our engine to machinist to re-bore it for new pistons 72mm. Head was resurfaced also. Crank was bored to 0.50 repair size (overall work cost around 200 bucks)

Now we are waiting for new head bolts and gasket kit to assembly the engine

And my friend also decided to change his ceiling covering and repair door trims. we stripped all the interior, removed glue on the ceiling with angle grinder with metal brush disc, this was the only way it came off. there was a little bit of rust because of moisture captured in foam rubber. I cleaned it off and applied regular acrylic spray can enamel. later this week we will put a new cover on ceiling

these are photos before, i will post the result later

while we are waiting for remaining parts, i have to make carb-intake transfer plate, change fuel pump to new one, replace cooling hoses, we also ordered new clutch kit (part no. Ashika 9206633) – $150

fuel pump is Stellox 1001001SX – $10

Also there is an electronic module that tells fuel pump when to work, anyone knows if it can mess with fuel pump itself? We had a problem when pump stopped working after 30-40 minutes driving. I will change fuel pump and put a direct 12V cable from ignition switch, i think it will help it

That would be a good price, in Germany.

I’m surprised that boring away slightly more than 2.5 mm on each side would be possible.

If you are going to go through that much effort, why not convert it over to fuel-injection?

The Netherlands isn’t much different
