Had to pull down the motor again after having coolant enter all 3 cylinders.
Ordered a custom head gasket in September with press in fire rings. This finally arrived just last week.
Removed the head off my spare motor which is a new Chinese head that hadn’t done alot of work. Completely stripped and checked over, new valve stem seals and reground the seats, ported around the valves to allow better fuel and spark ignition within the cylinder along with help to lower compression, installed the high lift cam that i got from Riley and upgraded springs that are made locally for the junior speedway charades.
Converted the carby from vacuum to mechanical secondaries as I wasnt seeing full boost till almost 5k and that alot! I only had a real short rev range on boost so this should help with low end power!
Gasket installed with hylomar and arp head studs torqued down.
Successful last few weeks with the charade. Motor is up and running. I needed to call in a friend from work that has alot of carby experience to assist with fine tuning and finding those small vacuum leaks that were giving me grief! In short, the idle mix screw was doing nothing and it was super rich on idle. The big cam sounds great!
Same day after a quick wash, I put the car seat back in and took the fam out to custom cars and coffee evening meet. Really happy with how it drives. Alot more responsive. Next I’ll be playing with some old school dizzy techniquesto get more advance timing as its a little sluggish in the lower rev range.
Recently have put the charade on club rego. So can be driven 90 days in the year which is more than enough plus cheaper rego! $130 per year!
you did a really nice job and your efforts pays off.
your car looks extremely nice.
I wish I could do all of that to my Sirion, but my aim is just to make it drive for now. rebuild the engine and save up a year or two for the next step I want to take in restoring her.
