MCM AWD Mira - Romanticised JDM Build 5000

Not a direct fit, I made up an adapter to suit. Bit of 25NB pipe and home made flanges traced from gaskets. I’d like to see if I can get 10psi (maybe 12psi) out of it, but i’d still be happy keeping it at 8psi. My build is about a nice, presetable, fun car.

Yeah I did some looking into it whilst waiting for your reply. I feel sorry for my little guy doing 14psi

Looks good mate, well done

Advice Needed: Going to refresh this EF-JL.. I’d LOVE to put Forged pistons, rods and headstuds into it, but I understand all that in ‘stock’ sizes is not easy. I had a good search through here and saw people are using bigger pistons with success.

Can anyone give me a bit of an idea of how they went about it with this particular kind of engine?

not sure on compatibility but daewoo matiz pistons are 68.5 ish which is not much over stock ef. I have heard of people using Vitara pistons (74mm) and I think I recall seeing Nissan March on insta somewhere for an efdet. (72mm) and apparently better than ejde. I have used ejde on an 850cc ed block and there was enough meat in the block to bore out and get them in so the ef series should be fine going that size too. I think rod compatibility for the pistons and the crank is one thing you may need to look into as well as the obvious piston specs.

Not sure if any of this helped but some food for thoughts which you may have considered anyway.

info on who to follow etc and look for info in the pic. for march pistons etc.

There were two versions of micra CG pistons, 1.0 flat top and 1.3 dish top. We were using 1.0 pistons in 1.3 for hi comp.

Also, facelift (coilpack, past-98) pistons had slighty diferent shape (shorter skirts IIRC)

Theres plenty of info at micra sports club

Dunno if this transfers to forged. But pistons was weak spot in CG, 140HP is mentioned as limit. I’ve heard that someone tried fit hayabusa pistons, but didint followed this topic. Soft turbo was enough for me

Aw so sick! How are you controlling the engine? I bet that thing is a blast.

Nik can hook you up

Yep I got these! but have to go custom pistons cause my comp ratio is gonna be too low with those dished ones

Exactly what you need. The higher static compression means your not filling the tune full of compensations to make up for something you then have complete control over -like a custom piston with an ideal compression height.

You have inspired me with your build. I was heading to an EFI conversion but my ecu has DBW, I would be a fool not to use it.

DBW is a GAME CHANGER. Especially for getting rid of a million pesky valves etc. Happy to make any parts I used available or at least get you guys in touch with the right people. I think our capacity will end up around 720cc with a bore and those rods + custom forged pistons.

What size is the Gudgeon pin hole on the pistons and the compression height from top of hole to top of piston? if anyone has it handy?

739cc I belive if doing the Nissan march setup and airflow will be similar to 1ltr EJ

From my measurements Nissan march looks like you end up super low comp and so a K3VE-2 piston from Malaysia is the way to go to get it into the low 9’s comp wise..

is that math mathing?

They have k3ve-2 pistons form malay? I know they are harder to get here now. The k3ve2 pistons in a gtvi is 11:1 from memory where as the k3ve piston is similar to the ej piston or around 10:1.

Yep that sounds right, we’ll know pretty soon as I’ll have them in front of me and will get some pics.

Custom forged for a set of 3 is $2100.. big dollars.

yeh that’s a decent chunk. Lucky its only 3 lol. I’m looking forward to seeing them

I didnt even know this thread was here  good to see its making progress but! Definitely has come a long way.

I remember seeing something on fb about the ignition system. Did you sort that out?
