Nic's Boosted Mira

Thanks, I’ve got heaps to do still. Soon I will have heaps more parts, gaskets, seals etc. Coming from both Malaysia and Amayama online. Got spare harness’s coming because some plugs broke when I took it all apart. Then I’ve ordered as many genuine gaskets as I can. I guess working at a car dealership for so long, I am just so used to using genuine parts. Way better quality. even though aftermarkets do work.

Then I need to figure out how I am going to re do this Catch Can setup haha.

and sus out this turbo. I have a spare because the housing where it mounts is cracked. I would prefer to get a good quality new one or have one of these rebuilt. I don’t want those cheap eBay ones. The turbo can blow the whole motor up!

Then figure out whether I am going to use the stock engine ecu or go aftermarket. I might give the stock one a go again and try get the air con idle up working. Seems too difficult for me unless I can find someone locally to make it work.

Once I get the car back, I want to lay down some sound insulation so it’s not so noisy on the road and keep some of the heat out.

Sup, seen your car before registered at forums

Those front fenders were widened before you’ve bought the car?

Hey, yeah they were. The guys are repairing the fenders because they been done hell dodgey. I have some photos of them :/.

But looked nice, Ill rather try to make metal ones than bolt-ons. I remember people were using VW golf II arch repair set for this. Some forgotten witchcraft heh

I’ve got quite a bit to update you all on.

Some of you may have seen some spoilers on the facebooks…

I am very happy with how it is looking so far.

I was quoted to paint some of the white on the inside but I decided I will just do the interior up later and cover it all. Also quoted to do custom flares in the rear which would of required to paint the body and rear bumper again so decided to leave it.

They have done a nice scratch resistant black inside the fenders/body, wiper area, K Frame and like a wax inside the doors.

The original mirrors, one had a massive crack around the mount so they said they couldn’t paint it. possible to fix but then it would be really easy for someone to knock it and it just snap off. Luckily I had L500 mirrors but they require some modifying to fit. The plan was to get both painted then I see which ones I like better lol.

I was quoted up to rebuild the turbo. I had a spare, I was going to supply both and make one good one, then I asked about putting a high flow billet wheel but that requires a tune, so ended up saying, maybe just rebuild both of them, one stock and one upgraded. The engine build/ecu is still undecided. Depends if I can find someone locally to make it all work. Still waiting for my NMF order for some engine gaskets and other things….

It might be a case where I slap the engine in with the standard ecu and wiring harness to get it driving. It is not something I want to rush to do though.

That looks like an aftermarket mirror cover? I can’t imagine that a mirror finish like that can get painted on. But, then I see nothing but mirrored door trim

No cover mate, these what they looked like before. Sanded down the plastic and paint, just like the bumpers!

Very slow progress, where do I start.

It has been decided. I will be doing a standard rebuild. It all worked fine before, just the idle up on the air con I will look at again. See if I can get it working otherwise I will be looking at a aftermarket ecu, then even possibly a rebuild of a spare engine I have in peices. it has some surface rust on everything, will be interesting and some fun with that. But that would be way later down the track in the future

Headtorque here in Perth did an excellent job on refurbishing everything. Welded a crack in the exhaust manifold aswell. Didn’t paint the block, it’s okay. I’ve done that!

The turbo is shot, the compressor wheel doesn’t spin freely. I have a spare one which seems okay but I don’t trust using it. My local turbo rebuild shop said the rebuild kits are obsolete for these turbo’s. Luckily I found a new one from Taiwan on eBay. Should be here this week, I hope its alright, it has minimal rust from storage.

Clutch, I have gone with a standard ACS clutch.

So far, the engine is ready to be built and assembled. I have fitted a new brake booster and master cylinder. Removed floor carpet for a clean which was annoying, I gave up on removing the old insulation. Mind you, it was between 35-40degree celcius days when I was working on the car. I’ve decided to go all out on this one. Sound deaden and insulate the whole car. The roof already feels solid so I have left that for now. Need to remove that ugly arss carpet and see whats under there in the roof lol. Not worried about that at the moment. My main focus now is re assemble car and get it running. Then we can fit a fully sick stereo and some custom interior. Cover any bare metal with vinyl wrap or something.

I couldn’t reach my hands up in the doors, so when I eventually do the electric windows. hopefully have more room when I remove the window regs.

Just waiting on the black handbrake lever before I put the carpet back in!

original turbo

new turbo (on its way)

block ready for machining

all machined and cleaned up!

block painted

floor in the middle of cleaning

90% of Dynamat layed

90% insulated!

I plan to use IHI RHF4 with 1.0 EJ. Bit confused because it was used in Isuzu Triton diesel, but it have water cooling… Unusual for diesel.

Also heard that was used in Vitz RS turbo, but hard to confirm (these cars are unicorns, seen only 3-4 in my country)

Oh yeah, nice. I was looking at other turbo’s. I was thinking, by the time I do Turbo, custom exhaust manifold, ecu, wiring, custom triggering. Will be another 5k+ ontop of what I’ve already spent on this car. I need to slow down on my spendings haha. I have other cars that need some $$ spent too.
