Sirion M101 rear sway bar

Hi, I’m after a rear sway bar for my M101 Sirion. I live in Tassy Australia and quite happy to pay postage. Will need the mounting hardware as well.

Hey,

I can recommend Ultra Racing for these. I got a 16mm rear sway bar from Malaysia, including the brackets for about £60 delivered by FedEx to the UK, likely cheaper for you as less far to go.

Is that the one for the Copen? I did see that someone in Oz tried to fit one to their Sirion and it was too short I think. They had to use other bits and pieces to make it fit.

Hi - newbie Sirion GTVi

I’m thinking of getting one fabbed up as I would like to go to around 22-23mm bar size

There are a few different shapes/sizes of Rear Sway Bar.

For the M100/M101 the Copen sized rear sway is too narrow. It fits the Copen and the L700’s.

The one I ended up fitting to my old M1xx Sirion was the Ultra Racing 18mm (AR18-407) which is designed for a Perodua Myvi (likely M300 Sirion too). It was generally the right size, but is not a direct bolt on. The edges were angled too much, ie \__/ like that on the edges instead of more right-angled |__|

But with some persuasion as listed below - it went in ok.

More of the underbody bracing that ‘fits’ the M1xx

Thanks for the info. I should have bought your car when it was for sale.

I don’t like buying new when I know there are going to be fitment issues.

Just got a quote from the Australian Ultra racing site for the sway bar and it comes to $460 not posted.

Might do some other mods first like coilovers to see if the stiffer rear springs will help.

Ouch - $460 before postage?!

In 2019 I used a company called Yulico Accessories Facebook and it was AUD$250 to my door in Adelaide.

Yeah, if I was doing this again, I would not use a rear sway bar, but go heavier rear springs. Unfortunately, the spring rates with the off the shelf options - which is really just BC Racing in Australia - are too soft.

Depending on your intended use of the car and budget, my next thought was to use:

  • Navic-Kyoto Springs (either 8K or 10K)

  • Koni Yellow Hyundai Veloster Shocks

I would think that setup would give an extremely stiff rear end without worsening the ‘independence’ of each side, that you get with the addition of a rear sway bar / or larger rear sway bar.

Another option is of course the GAZ Racing suspension from Compact Motorsport in NZ.
Or get some custom springs made up by King Springs via their special coil request Special Coil Procedure - Product - King Springs Automotive Aftermarket Springs

I’m looking at getting BC coilovers. I have had BC coilovers in my other car and I was able to specify what spring rates I wanted, so i’m hoping I’ll be able to do the same again.

It will be for track duties, nothing really serious though

Thanks, a much more comprehensive response! Yes I ended up using the Myvi sway bar and yes it not quite ‘perfect’ fit, with the arms being angled as @TPG says. I found that by mounting the sway bar brackets on the trailing arm, then tightening the swap bar bolts up on alternate sides (tighten one side a bit, tighten other side a bit, back to first side etc etc) it fitted up fine. It feels little bit sketchy but its not snapped or anything in 3 years/4000 miles so I think its fine.

I’d say don’t go too thick if you do get one made - mine is a 19mm and it stiffens the rear end up A LOT. You can buy an off-the-shelf 22mm one, but I believe that its possible to go too far with this.

Something to look at it to buy from Ultra Racing’s Malaysia store and have them ship via Fedex. I could have bought the same part from Ultra Racing EU store but it was about triple the price of ordering it from the .MY store and having it couriered.

I think the rear swaybar may go to the end of the mod list at the moment. I was going to try one if I could get hold of one cheap enough. I’m still not really convinced you need one if you use a sufficient increased rear spring rate. With my previous track car I went back to standard size swaybars F/R after I increased the front and rear spring rates. Found that I my lap times were quicker

Would you be able to help me find the product you got for my Rallye 2 from ultra racing?

Yes absolutely. I ended up buying a UR-AR18-407 from Ultra Racing Malaysia, this is the product page: Perodua Myvi / Lagi Best, Toyota Tank – Rear Anti-Roll Bar / Rear Sway Bar / Rear Stabilizer Bar – Ultra Racing Malaysia

I ended up buying from a Malaysian company and had it shipped to the UK. It was a while ago, but it may have been these guys: https://www.lazada.com.my/products/perodua-myvi-10-13-15-ultra-racing-rear-anti-roll-bar-rear-sway-bar-rear-stabilizer-bar-18mm-solid-ur-ar18-407-i106640973.html

For ref, you can get them in the UK but they aren’t cheap - I have seen them for about £250 GBP whereas the MY one is about £105 + shipping. If you can keep it under £130 GBP then it does not attract import duty, but not sure what Fedex/UPS shipping costs these days?

I don’t know if it would fit but I got a rear sway bar for my M300 Sirion from UltraRacing. If they do not have a sway bar for the M101 Sirion on their website I’d contact them, they’re based in the Netherlands and were very helpful. I sent an email through the European website and they shipped it from Malaysia. What I ordered is technically made for the Perodua Myvi but it fits the M300 Sirion perfectly as it is the same car under the skin.. That being said, I haven’t installed it yet but the reviews are all positive.
