WA L500RS

Hi @whiteknight

@evilhighway is right @601to602 was involed, he helped me with a copen loom and a move flywheel (I think from a 601??)

The engine was from an Australian Delivered Daihatsu Copen (L880K)
The gearbox was also sourced via @601to602 and was a EF-GL (Twincam EF from an L500 I think) box, My L200 TRXX box the bell housing did not mate to the L880k but the EF-GL box did have alternative holes that matched.

The inspection plate I think was also from stuff michael gave me or it was the trxx one, I can’t recall but do remember we had to drill a hole in that.

The Clutch itself was a heavy duty exedy L200 unit, I managed to make it slip once on a hot day but besides that it went for years.

Engine mounts in the L200 were the same as the EF-XL which I am certain is the same as an EF/ED aussie delivered.

The gearbox linkages I recall some issues with, from the standard L200 Trxx linkages I had, one side did not work I can’t recall which, I mixed the setup with L500 parts and it seemed to work.

@evilhighway it’s wierd though, as the temp sender is 3 pin same as the EJ, one of those pins goes directly to the guage on the cluster. I might need to do some wire tracing and see if I have any broken connections.

@FrAsErTaG hi mate, cheers for the info.
Seems the gearbox side of it is sorted for me being mine’s a L500 already.
The engine here is also from the Australian delivered L880k Copen. I just need to get it open to see what the full extent of damage is.

It was specifically the EF-GL (Twincam) engine that had the correct fitment.
That said I only lined up a L200 TRXX gearbox behind it and it was incorrect, perhaps the stock EF-EL L500 box would work but speaking from my experience the EF-GL box is what worked.

Proceed with caution

he has an efgl engine in his L500 so its a good chance it is the right gearbox.

Thanks for all the info.

I’ve yet to get the jb-det home as of yet.

I might atm just fit the new stainless steel ej-de extractors and believe it or not I find the exhaust note way to loud now so i might get the exhaust changed from one central muffler and twin exit pipes to a central hotdog resonator with one rear muffler and a droopy tip.

As I mentioned I’m ordering in a top mount rear hatch wing and I’m speaking with the Pickers Station in Malaysia about getting in the L512 factory aero to make mine a L512 rep.

Not sure if I’ll be continuing with this L5 for too much longer as I’ve bit the bullet and I’m having a L5 2WD TRXX Avanzato imported for me from Japan.

That car is the “frogs pussy”. No one will understand the reference but same as saying the bee knees etc. Nice decision. I am a bit sad about the l5 though after all your progress.

haha I’ve never heard that saying before.

I’m not sure of the exact specs or any mods. Basically I asked my boss how much it would be to bring in a written off L5 trxx so I can transfer everything into mine, he said why not bring in a good one and that he actually had one on the way here and if I wanted too I could buy it. So I said okay.

I’ll have to see if I can afford three rego’s and insurances, I’ve got a Chrysler 300C aswell for the family car.

I do like my little green L5. Building it up from a bad example has been fun and frustrating. It’s also been easier to mod a car that was bad to start with as I don’t feel so bad molesting it’s stock form.

Hey, you guys wouldn’t know where there’s a factory top mount intercooler for sale by chance?

no sorry. Malasia maybe?

Nah I’d give Malaysia a miss, hard enough getting this rear wing from there into Australia.

Nothing too substantial to report at the moment. I took delivery of a nice “ski jump” over sized rear wing last Thursday. I purchased it from Malaysia before I knew I was getting the TRXX. Just needs a good sanding, but of body filler for the deep scratches and knocks on the corners then a paint job. It appears it’s mainly held on with double sided tape which is a bit concerning. There are two holes along the top for some screws but I may add one to each of the legs aswell.

sika flex 227 works well also

Looks good. the malay wings from the ones i’ve seen all need a bit of final work but the main shape is there so its good. suits the car a lot

And the only need for screws then are to hold things in place while the adhesive cures.

definitely I when I put my gti spoiler on my swift I had Mary and the 2 kids (when they used to live at home) all helping me stand there holding the spoiler for about 20 minutes until it was stable enough to let go. 2x Teen’s standing in one spot doing nothing and complaining about it can be painful. hahaha

Sounds a bit more permanent than double sided tape so I might in fact go that route. Thanks guys.
