Sirion autoX build random questions

Don’t know if it would cause clunking, but, they do need at least 95ron fuel and will knock if lower fuel is used.

I think the lowest octane rating we have in Germany is 95 then the ultimate or super plus is 98. Don’t think we get 91 here

so yesterday I picked up the beast. had a quick look at it and it has eibach springs all around, and a sports exhaust. the motor has been cooked so the head will need to come off and the noise it was making seems to be coming from the top end, but unfortunately I didn’t have a long screwdriver anything there to use as a stethoscope so I cant say for sure. Its parked at work now and ill pull the head this week and assess the damage. There is one other problem that has me a little concerned, I cant select 2nd or 4th. Im hoping because its sat for a while (they said it was sitting for about 10 months) maybe the shift linkages are seized or something like that, I don’t think its the trans because 1st, 3rd,5th and reverse are all working fine and The owner told me the gearbox was working fine and it only had the motor problem, I cant see why they would lie about it because we drove 3 hours to buy the car for 150 bucks and they were honest about everything else. Has anyone encountered a similar problem with the trans or shift linkages?

anyway, pictures will be posted soon, so stay tuned

spent the afternoon emailing local wreckers to see if anyone has a 3sz top end, today is a public holiday here so hopefully I will get some replies tomorrow.
the front brakes need to be replaced too so I was looking on www.ebay.de and there seems to be quite a few copen brake calipers for sale, I was just wondering if all the copens have the same brake calipers or if I need calipers from a specific variant? unfortunately I don’t have any listings for copen brake calipers on our parts program at work, only listings for brake rotors, which all seem to be the same size, 246mm if I remember correctly.

Car looks great. 246mm sounds right and is the size listed by DBA. Std should be 234mm. When I helped do that swap onto an L200 we didn’t ask for anything special, just “copen calilpers”.

L880 i think the most common model of copen is we have here

The UK got the factory K3-ve2 version as well as the JB-DET version of the Copen so maybe they are a different brake? There is the Copen Manual on here it may have sizes listed for the two different models

Copen brakes fit inside 15" wheels?

Yes. I’m pretty sure the stock copen wheels here in Oz are 15s.

So…
Big end bearing cylinder 1 :frowning:
Probably a head gasket too :frowning: :frowning:
Can someone link me to a workshop manual so I can find the specs for the crank?
Tomorrow I’ll pull the sump and check, if the big end and crank are in spec I’ll throw some bearings in it and jobs done, but if the crank is damaged then I have to weigh up weather its better to rebuild or buy another motor.

which engine is it again?

K3-VE2 motor 102 PS should be the same as the gttvi motor in Aus and I think the 2sz-ve from Toyota

In the workshop manuals look at the Copen Manual it has your engine mate

Yeah I have just seen that, but my smartphone doesn’t support the file type, any chance you could have a quick sqizz and tell me what the file type is so I can download an app to view it please

ok guys so the Daihatsu is dead, like as dead as can be.
Pulled the small oil pan on the bottom and there was a pile of metal pieces that looked like it was a long long time ago a big end bearing.
Sorry I don’t have a photo, my phone was flat and what I saw has left me scarred and will give me nightmares probably for the rest of my life so its probably best I don’t share it with you.
The big end on cylinder 1 has approx. 5mm play in every direction…
I think among the remains I found were also pieces of crank and conrod…
so…
My absolute legend of a boss made some calls to source a new motor and low and behold there is a complete car at a wreckers no more than 10 kilometres from my house and they’ll sell the complete car for 600 bucks (Ive been looking for months, cant believe I missed it :open_mouth:)
My boss has to run some errands tomorrow and is going to check it out for me.
The car I have now is red, so we will call her Red and the other is blue, so we can name her Blue. So if Blue has a better body than red she will get the sports exhaust and eibach springs. But if red has a better body than blue than she will get the motor and trans.
That’s where im at now, progress might be slow for a little while until I have more money to spend, just keeping you guys up to date.

On a positive note I got a reply from Koni Germany and the strut inserts don’t require TÜV approval so that should make a good combination in the front end with the eibach springs.
For the rear end I’ll be looking for a swaybar and I heard something about Hyundai shocks bolting straight in?
Could someone give me the part numbers for factory swaybar and these Hyundai shocks?

Hyundai Excel rears go into L200, not sure about m100?

In any case they are not really “bolt in” the eyelets need cutting and that might be a drama

Yes, forgot about that. The crush tubes that form the eyelet need to be shortened for L200. @FrAsErTaG do Excel also fit M100?
