The build thread of Awsten

Hey mate

How confident are you in this?

The steering rack or the k3 swap?

The steering rack I am sure it would be quicker, but I have no idea what would be involved. I think the copen one is quicker again.

K3 swap I am only guessing.

From what I’ve been told… the copen rack is the quickest p&p rack.

Sorry yeah was talking about the steering rack

Is it neccessary though considering you already have eps?

Merry Christmas everyone.

So we had heaps of rain over Christmas but finally had a dry patch and managed to get the engine out of the Mira.

Not having done a L251 before it was a bit of a learning curve to pull the engine out the bottom but managed to get there.

I have ordered new drive shafts and now looking for the following

  • Drivers side LCA
  • Seals for the gearbox as the ones in there are cooked.
  • 4 pin 02 sensor as the sensor that came on the down pipe is single wire
  • Mira avy body loom, it was hoped the L251 loom would bolt into the ECU but sadly not, I at minimum need the plugs…

Any thoughts or advice appreciated, I did get a passenger side LCA a while back @evilhighway helped me source it from Malaysia but can’t find the website now…

New ecu (I have engine side)

Merry Christmas to everyone and happy new year ahead!

damn I cant remember the website either. Maybe @b_hoves may have an idea. Bugger about the ecu mine is pretty much the same as the l251 on with 3 plugs. You maybe able to get a 4 wire o2 plug pretty easy as many cars use them standard now. 2 wires are + and 2 - from memory. Usually the 2 colors that are the same is a + and a - as they are used for heating the sensor and either can be used as a + or a -. (well the cheap ones I have had b4.)

Good progress mate

Yes I was just looking at your ecu and found one for sale but sadly don’t think it will help because my engine loom has two plugs not one

so does mine.

for axle seals also if you cant find any just measure ID and OD and thickness and go to a bearing shop and they should be able to find something that will fit for cheap. It is what I did with the Lsd L200 box.

Yeah your loom and ecu look like the same from the EJ ecu.

But my new ecu has two plugs plus the blue one

I am unsure what to do, I could try find the loom for EFDET for a gino which is what your Ecu seems to be out of

Website for parts is https://protonperoduaparts.com.my/

that blue plug is the same plug that is used for ejde I believe the colour is just blue and not green.

Cheers for that, what is the Malaysian equivalent again?

I had a look on Yahoo Auctions, oddly I was able to find ECUs for EF-DET L700 Ginos that had both types of plugs.

This one has the same plugs as your new ECU.

while this one has the same plugs as the L251.

I wonder why the difference even in the same model? Manuel vs Auto maybe?

you maybe on the money with auto/manual. Mine is same as L251 and is a manual.

Thanks for having a look, I have been able to find the ECU like Jimmy’s without too much trouble

it is finding the loom to go with it that I am having a lot of trouble with.
Spent most of the afternoon Yesterday looking without any luck.

That sucks. Have you tried Nik at NMF Garage? Malaysia have a lot of engines and half cuts.

Yep he is trying to source at the moment but has a few personal commitments on as of now but I did reach out to him
