WA L500RS

Might of found it on partsfan.com thanks to Michael on the fb group. It’s for the 5sd so I’m hoping it’s the same size for my 4sd.

Looks like it cross references to the 4sd boxes so very good.
The only downside is it looks like the only place I can get it, Impex Japan, isn’t allowing any new orders due to Covid.

I picked up the axle shaft seals and the rear main seal today. Can’t do much at the moment till I get the selector shaft seal. My gearbox and front engine mounts looked a bit sad so I did what I did with my old L80 and filled them, including the rear engine mount with polyurethane silicone. A bit tight arse I know but it worked on the L80 so why not.

I found one here in Germany, let me know if you want it, I’ll buy it and post it to you.

@Mr_Gormsby seal sorted by @Mick but I’ll be off the road for a good couple of weeks.
I might have to ask you a gbox reassembly question later, there’s a single ball bearing I pulled out that I didn’t see where it popped out from. There’s a few others but I know where they belong.

I’m having issues locating a throttle body, fuel rail and injectors. Unfortunately I’m being offered some for silly money, $200 plus postage and $350 plus postage.

Also, I’ve been told I can’t use the ejde head. Apparently the efgl pistons are domed and will hit the ejde combustion chamber. Not too much of an issue as since I have the engine out I can see undrilled injector ports in the efgl, should work if I drill them out.

Single ball is for a detent. It goes in a hole in one side of the housing with a spring beneath, look at where the gear selector slides. Matches with notches in that selector shaft. I will attempt to remember to photograph my open box which is at work.

Found some injectors that I will put in with the harness. May eventually find a rail.

I may have an L500 gearbox workshop Manuel (in German ) I will take a look Monday.

Will throw this in too. Sorry it is not complete. I doubt I have an assembled one as I was boring them out for oversize butterflies. The coolant fast idle I’ve always blanked off with a custom flat plate

Thanks guys :grinning:

@Mr_Gormsby this is the offending item, thought it might go in that hole on the swing arm

I am pretty sure that is a locating dowel. Should go into the out side of a bearing and locate in the houding

Have a look at the secondary shaft. I’ve attached a pic of a broken bearing. It was not seated on the dowel properly and tightened cracking the bearing. See if you can rule that out as the location. I’ll have a look at your piccs on a big screen

Ouch :frowning:

That particular locating dowl is still in place. The one I’ve got here is slightly longer and wider than the dowl you mention.

So I’m thinking while the gbox part is coming I might just bypass doing the Weber and go straight to the efi conversion since I’ll have weeks and weeks to do it all.

Ripped the carby side off tonight and test fitted the ejde intake manifold, perfect fit and so simple without the massive clutter of the carby and vacuum lines.

With this head the injector ports are there, just not drilled through. So if I open them I’m assuming the injectors will sit in nicely.

Just a quick update, nothing too major.
Lots of packages arriving with L700 body loom, EJDE injectors, EJDE throttle body, EJDE fuel rail and a Bosch 044 external fuel pump. My 9 metres of vinyl wrap arrived last week also so I can change the body colour to army green, except the kids said they want to spray the engine bay hot pink so I’ll let them, after I’ve prepped it.

Need to cut out a blank plate too so I can delete the mechanical fuel pump. Been keeping a casual eye out for some thin plate. I do have some 10mm stuff but now I think that’s over kill.

6mm alu or 3mm steel would be enough

Spent a few hours yesterday drilling and grinding out the injector ports in the EFGL head. Tried to make them similar to the EJDE ports. I could refine them more but for the most part they’re done.

My brother sent me over a Bosch 044 external fuel pump he no longer needs.
I’m going to assume that I’ll need to run a fuel reg with this pump yes?
