It begins…
I did find $30.35 under the carpet…
One of the things I found first was one of the looms coming out of the stalk cluster goes into the fuse box; the empty plug here and also the brake light switch goes into the fuse box. The L700 fuse box doesn’t have these two plugs so I’ll have to find where they go on the L7 loom…

I’m replacing the L5 body loom with a L7 body loom.
oh your doing the whole thing
I would have assumed you just needed power from the ignition and battery for the ecu and for the fuel pump, for a non immob ej head.
Mr Gormsby sourced me a ej head, sirion engine loom and an uncut l7 body loom. Found out I can’t use the ej head as the combustion chamber is flat and the ef pistons are domed. So I’ve drilled the injector ports into the ef head. Also, I didn’t want to cut up a good body loom so I’m fitting it complete so it’s more plug and play, plus it’s got electric mirrors in the loom. Only issues I’ve seen pre fitment are plugs from l5 steering column don’t match anything yet on the l7 loom and the l7 tail light plugs differ so will need chopping to graft the l5 wiring to.

Wouldn’t I have to wire up everything that’s on the ecu B plug on the efgl loom into the ecu B plug to plug into the L7 ecu so everything else works? *If I was to use the factory L5 loom.
I haven’t worked on the car today, too rainy and cold as we have a downgraded cyclone hitting a cold front over here.
So I’ve just been looking at diagrams to see how people wire into their existing looms.
Mine being carby, there’s no reference to injector wires in the pinout for the efgl.
This particular document is good for the L2 but the wiring colours differ to the carby L5.
Although I wondered if pin 4 and 37 are both switched 12V and one could be used for the injectors?
I noticed my fuse box has ‘fuel pump’ on it and there are extra wires alongside the fuel sender wire which I assume would go to the pump if this were a efel.

This is the L5 carby ecu B plug

do you even have power steering and a/c?
I wish I had a/c but no to either.
I think from watching a YouTube vid and reading some more pdfs that the main power wires in the ejde engine loom are in this green plug separate to the ecu…

Washed out the engine bay today, getting ready for a change in colour and some rust treatment. Washed some interior too while there’s no electrics in there.
EFGL still sitting around. All I’ve done is remove the water pump to replace it with a new one. The new one came with a gasket for the housing and o ring for the outlet. I might change them, see how I feel about taking the housing off as Daihatsu decided to put one bolt behind the timing belt tensioner.
I also noted I can’t use the EJDE coil packs, they sit about 10mm above the mounting surface where they bolt to and unfortunately two of them have cracks down their shafts. So I’ll be using the EFGL ones, I’ll just need to swap the EJDE coil plugs on the engine loom over to the EFGL plugs as they’re slightly different.
I’ve decided to keep going with the L7 body loom swap so I’ve taken the whole L5 loom out. I do have two areas of concern though. Firstly, although the plug for the ignition barrel on the L7 loom fits directly into the L5 ignition barrel the other plugs for the headlights, indicators, wipers, etc don’t match so I’ll have to source both vehicles wiring diagrams for these so I can splice them together. I haven’t seen yet if the brake pedal light switch and clutch switch plug in yet. The second concern is that the L7 wiring loom only has two plugs going into the tail light assemblies which I assume are the park/brake and indicator where as the L5 has the park/brake, indicator and reverse. I couldn’t find a reverse plug but there is an empty plug socket at the back of the L7 loom which might be for reverse and the high mount brake light, I’ll have to investigate further. In the meantime I cut the L5 body loom at the back just before it branches out to the rear light assemblies, high mount brake light and number plate lights In case I need to wire it into the L7 loom. In any case I’ll have to swap the tail light pbulb holders anyway as the L7 bulb holders don’t fit the L5 assemblies.
I’ll also have to source a L7 instrument cluster. I’ve been told they fit into the L5 dash, they just need spacers on the side mounting tabs.
This is the L7 body loom to go in.

such a big job but good on you for doing it.
I think reassembling the manual box might be tricky. Been awhile since I pulled it apart and I need to remember exactly how the gears, forks, etc line up.

I think you’ll find the box straight forward
Haven’t touched the car in a bit, but this weekend I managed to clean the engine bay and paint it up in pink, including under the bonnet.

@Mr_Gormsby would you happen to have any exploded views or pics of the 4 speed being reassembled?
I didn’t take any proper pics and I can’t see anything online so now I’m a bit lost on how all the small stuff inside is aligned, I’m also not seeing where that one small oval ball bearing goes.
Never mind, I believe that after lots of messing around I’ve got it all in the right order.

Excellent. Don’t go crazy with sealant. Small beads on super clean edges
Roger that, I’ve already used a razor blade to clean up the edges. Using brake cleaner to rub them down before I run the silicone.
Just pouring down in Perth today, so a bit miserable to work outside atm.
Been trying to crack the crank shaft pulley bolt too with both a rattle gun and breaker bar, she’s not budging. Just need to get the pulley off so I can remove the lower timing cover and timing belt tensioner so I can get to one water pump bolt. Then I can replace the water pump gasket and O ring then begin reassembly of the EJ efi intake setup.
Oh crap, that reminds me. I need to tap the fuel rail end so I can run a fuel return to a fuel reg I’m yet to buy.

On another note, does anyone have or know where there’s a second hand set of EJDE extractors? Looking at my factory headers I’m not feeling like refitting them to be honest.

Before I seal up the gbox I’ve decided to replace this seal with a new one. May aswell have all new seals in it. Just have to wait till Monday to get it.
